why is it so hard to admit it when you are wrong?

I don't think I'll ever understand why this is so hard. Its one of my big character flaws...when I catch myself trying to prove a point that I know is wrong, I get severely pissed.

What the heck is so hard about admitting that you are wrong?????

The way around this is to assume you don't know as much as you think you know and approach every subject with an open mind. Before you start throwing out assumptions and beliefs, stop and think about different perspectives. I think a lot of the posters on ATOT could use this technique badly.

There is nothing wrong with not admitting you are wrong, in fact it is a positive trait. It proves that you aren't a quitter and are willing to go the extra mile to beat your adversary into submission even though they are right and you are wrong.

It is only wrong if you give up. Don't be a quitter!

This could be combined with all the other spoiled kid threads we have.
A HUGE part of the problem is so many people grew up with the lessons "your perfect and special and everything you do and say is wonderful, no matter what".
Admitting you are wrong totally goes against what many of us have had beaten into our heads since childhood.

I used to be "I HAVE TO BE RIGHT ALL THE TIME!" then I became "I have to be right, sometimes!" then eventually I realized that "You're right!" makes everybody happy. Probably because I care less now.

That's the thing...once I realize what I'm doing...I drop it. Its just that I do it without meaning to. Usually watching someone else be wrong is fun!

I always admit when I'm wrong. It's not my favorite thing to do, but who cares in the end? In another 100 years nobody will even know who I was :^D

As I got older I found it easier to admit when I was wrong. Now I rarely argue even when I know I am right. I'm to old for that shit.

Being wrong indicates that the thinking equipment you were born with is sometimes faulty. In order to maximize your chances of passing on the genes responsible for that faulty equipment, you must be able to convince others that it is not faulty. In this case the important thing is that potential mates believe that you are always right, whether you actually are or not. The most effective way for you to sell your rightness to others is if you believe it yourself, hence your bias toward believing you are right at the same time you know you are not.

wow like WTF?!? You know it's wrong yet still go on and have balls to say you are pissed when other's correct you.

Being one of a high IQ and knowledgebase I really understand your kind. Seeing my first post about how "it's a problem" makes me want to vomit.

What irritates me is people who provide information with absolute confidence when they don't know what the hell they're talking about, and they know they don't know it. I've worked with asshats like that before, and I don't know what their issue is. If somebody asks me something, I'll provide the information to the best of my ability, and the accuracy approximately weighted so they can use their own judgment. That's not to say I give infallible advice, but I try to be accurate. The other people give the impression of knowing when they're clueless, and that's how fuckups happen.
