Why is it okay to hit kids but not adults?

By the time they can be reasoned with, the spankings are basically useless... but if you try just reasoning with an infant, toddler, etc, (without any other correction) then by the time they might otherwise respond to reason they already know that you are nothing more than an impotent slave- so reason won't work.

Who says you can't hit adults? I hit them all the time. I also cherry-bomb babies over five story apartments and headbutt little girls into the paths of Mack trucks.

I'd say most people on this forum advocate corporal punishment for kids... but not for wives and girlfriends. Why is it okay to hit kids but not adults? What's the difference?

What happened to verbal problem solving and reasoning things out?

ahahahahahahaahahahahahaha, you don't have kids do you?

I'm saying for adults.
I think you can reason most things out with MOST kids.
But then there are some that totally go against reason and are just troublemakers that do need a spanking.

the question still stands. Have you ever had to deal with a young kid?

It is not ok to hit anybody unless you are really pissed off and it would be an adult that I punch and not a kid.

Is this really a rational question?
No. The OP is either stupid or trolling. Imagine a 2 year-old toddler trying to climb up onto a hot stove. How do you explain to the 2 year-old that he will get burned? You can't. He lacks the cognitive ability, at that age, to understand to correlation. So since you don't want the child to burn himself, you apply a light spanking as a warning of the danger, something the child will understand. Later, when the child is older and more cognitive, you can explain verbally without the need for the spanking, and he will understand.

Is mercanucaribe the one who likes to post sh!t like this an never re-vist the thread? I notice he's absent since the OP...

Two year olds know what hot is, unless they're retarded. Hitting is a crutch for people who lack effective communication skills. And yes I have a three (almost four) year old. He knows how to sit still, not get into things, and behave himself and I've never hit him.

Just because your kid's a genious doesn't mean everybody else's kids are as bright as yours. Unfortunately, most babies are retarded, they will eat krazy glue if you don't keep an eye out.

Because MOST adults know the difference between causing some discomfort by spanking, and actually doing damage by hitting.

Not too many adults would sit still for a spanking for disciplinary reasons, although there are many who need one.

EXACTLY.

exactly why my kids learned a smack on the butt was the result of bad behavior.

and yes, my wife and i DO take it on ourselves to determine right and wrong for my kids.

Your logic is utterly flawed, and your personal story (asides from being irrelevant in the context of a general discussion) is most likely fabricated (every parent thinks their children are perfect, especially when they are not). NO ONE knows hot is until they are burned. The concept that hot equates to burning and pain cannot be communicated, it can only be experienced in order to be understood.

It all goes back to our puritan roots. In Puritan times, children were not considered people.

What a lack of imagination. My toddler simply doesn't have access to the stove. That's what a stove guard is for. I don't need to beat him to keep him from the stove - he just can't reach.

Corporal punishment shows that one doesn't know how to parent and shows a distinct lack of respect towards the child.
