Does this confirm that Nintendo is purposely limiting supply? I mean...wtf??? That stuff cannot be that hard to produce.

My local Target seems to be getting 10-15 of these per week and I live in a small town (<30,000 people). I picked one up last Sunday with no problems. If they had any more while I was there I would have bought them and ebayed them. 😛

well they could set up, at huge expense, a production line that would make 10 million of them in one month. and then have it make just a trickle of them, losing money each month.

or they could do what they're doing.

Because lots of people want it and the speed at which it can be produced to prevent flooding the stores is hard to gauge?

Because people clean out a store and resell them for 150% of the price to people dumb enough to pay for it?

I don't remember where I was, to be honest. Damn drugs.

Edit: I remember now. Not Walmart, Circuit City in Ellicott City. I believe I was there last Sunday.

Anything you can ebay for a profit will be gobbled up by the fatwallet crew. Until the ebay demand dies down, these will be hard to find.

'ebayed' actually means 'send to Evad' right?

Dunno if there's any truth to the rumor, but I've heard quite a few say that most stock of Fit and Mario Kart goes to Europe since the Euro's worth more than the dollar.

Makes sense if it's true. Don't like it, but it makes sense.

BTW, Costco seems to get regular stock of these things when other surrounding stores run out. They have a "1 unit per membership" limit, which I'm sure helps this stay in stock.

Pretty much. Not only do they have the top selling console by a huge margin, and the DS is selling about as fast as the Wii. On top of that, now they have to build balance boards too. It's entirely possible that they're building them as fast as they can.

They favor markets with currency that isn't crashing.

I have heard rumors that this may actually be true and that a much larger percentage of their supply is going to the demands of those which a more valuable currency. I have no idea if that is actually true or not though. I suppose some distribution and sales data would be necessary to come up with an educated guess, but I don't even know if that is public or not and I don't care enough to look.

I think they sent something like 2 million to Europe and about 500k to the US mainly because the US dollar sucks right now. I saw one the on release day but didn't buy it because I was going on vacation, and I haven't seen one since. 🙁

Based on VGChartz, The US accounted for 44% of the Wii's sales in June 2008. The US accounted for ~42% of the Wii's sales in June and July of 2007.
