"Fastest growing" product often means, "our product was terrible 2 years ago, no one bought it, so we introduced a new, somewhat better product last year and see a 50% increase in sales" (while our established competition only grew 4% and still dominates market share)

When I hear "fastest growing" I think, "not a major player" or "a nobody."

It's just execs struggling to find something positive about their company. No one else really cares. When a company says "we're the most trusted name in ____" or "people count on our brand to deliver" they are carefully avoiding any promise of trustworthiness or reliability (which is what really matters). I'd rather hear "you can trust us" or "count on us" - as long as it's true, naturally.

Another dubious claim is being "a leading" company in whatever field. What does "leading" really mean, really? Sounds good, FWIW.

a few weeks ago i was watching this show "undercover boss" and they had this scummy lookin' "real estate" dude on and they bragged that his company was one of the "50 fastest growing companies in america" so i was, like, "dafuq? i neva hurda da dood?!" and so i googled him and it turns out he runs scam seminars and infomercials fake teachin peeps ta flip houses and has made 50 million doin' it (that is, by running seminars, not doing real estate). he may be fast growing but man i wouldnt want his business if i was offered it for free, his whole business is just one big scam. youd think a tv show would be embarassed to even have a scammer like that star on one of their shows, its just a matter of time before his scam business gets shut down

It really all depends on context.

I work for one of the fastest growing companies in our industry. We routinely grow 10-25% per quarter with no signs of slowing. We scare the hell out of the competition because we are growing so fast. But since we are still small, we can adjust faster than the large companies. We can do things the bigger guys can't do because they have too much bloat but we can do a lot more things than the smaller guys because we have the capitol to do major projects.

Bottom line is customers don't want to be with us because we are the fastest growing, we are the fastest growing because customers want to be with us.

When a company says it's the fastest growing or fast growing, the implication is that the products / services are so excellent that more and more people are catching on so they are fast growing. It's the same logic as companies that claim to be the #1 in sales in their industry etc: the implication is that so many customers can't be wrong, their products and services are so good, and that's why they sell the most.

I have something that's extremely fast growing, but it's not a company.

But it is the smallest.

It isn't necessarily a scam if he actually made money flipping houses. Imagine making $300k/yr flipping houses. You can either try to expand your business through hiring and internal training, inevitably someone you train will just go and do it themselves. Or you can teach people what you did to make $300k/yr and make $50M doing it.

These are typically only a scam in so much as they probably can work but the kind of people that sign up are looking for the easy money and it is never as easy as advertised.

It means that they are expanding in the market more than any of their competition. Which means they are risky as hell and are going to downsize as soon as something bad happens. But then again, I am a pessimist.

update: Apparently we broke another record. I walked out to grab a pop and the ops manager was spraying champagne all over the warehouse.

Maybe he found a job at an even faster growing company and is just celebrating that he's leaving.

Turns out we have done as much business MTD as we did in all of 2010.

I think he was just looking for a reason to spray champagne everywhere.

Men and their spraying liquids everywhere.

Is the company small enough that you can hand him a playboy and tell him to take care of himself in private without getting canned?
