Why is it acceptable to reek of cigarette smoke?

This thread deserves a poll as to "haters" and "tolerators".

Personally, I think it's gross and disgusting. I actually avoid and generally don't even talk to smokers just because I don't want to smell the stink. I certainly don't care for them breathing all over me. It gets on your clothes and hair and the only way to get rid of it is bathing or laundry. I'm not being elitist or anything like that. I grew up in a home where both parents smoked and I decided a long time ago it was a sick habit that noone should have to put up with.

EDIT - PS. Why should I have to walk through the f'ing smoking zone to get into or out of the building? Let 'em go around the corner somewhere so I don't have to hold my breath to walk through the door.

I take it you think it is easier to control the air quality outside as opposed to an airtight, confined structure.
