Why is human breast milk not sold in the local dairy case?

I was at work today dumping about 50 gallons or so of milk, and it got me to thinking... why is it that we don't see human breast milk in stores? And I'm not talking about just for babies either.

I am just trying to understand why there is no Homoganized, Pasteurized human breast milk. Is the general concensus that it's just taboo? Or is it just repulsive to think you're drinking something from another person?

Or maybe the women of the board could answer - would it be dehumanizing to sell your breast milk? Would you simply think of yourself as cattle? Or would you be fine with utilizing a resource of yours that you would ultimately get paid for?

It just baffles me that noone has tried anything like this yet. After all, bovine milk is meant for their offspring, as is every other mammal's. So if we do this to cows, goats and other animals, why don't we do this to ourselves?

human breast milk.. some women do sell it, thou mostly to hospitals, for the babies that are unable to get breast milk from their own mother for whatever reason.

Normally a mother only creates enough milk for her own child/children to drink.

But, breast milk, once it leaves the body, is good for only like 24 hours unless it is frozen. and even then for only two weeks.

Besides, would you want to be attached to a machine to pump milk out of you?? (if you were female)

People drink goats milk, and I hear that isn't the nicest thing on the palette.... 😉

I used to date a single mom with young kid. I tried the milk from her one time andd it was ok, nothing to write home about. I am sure if you are willing to pay enough cash, there will be some moms that will sell you some home brew milk.

I volunteered to work at one for a day through my nursing school. They had this machine that could test the fat, protein content.

But seriously, thank you for making me clean my keyboard. It did need to be dusted. I'm glad I was drinking C2 and not milk because if the milk had come from my nose like the C2 had, it would have been kinda weird.

My wife breast fed all 3 of our kids for like 6 months each. Drinking the milk wasn't high on my list of things to do with her tig ole bitties at the time. 😀
