I was wondering why my computer is so laggy after a fresh clean format, so i checked the CPU usage and it hovers at around 90-99%...what the heck is going on? everythings so slow and its still 99%. Its also using like 80 megs of ram and hovers around that. Before the format when nothing was being done most of the CPU would go to System Idle Process. I'm using win xp.

updated windows, drivers and everything.

watch a divx movie
Windows (Explorer) will normally try to get a thumbnail of the DivX file, and this could lead to minutes of HD access and processing. I'm still stumped, but this might help you ...

You're thinking of IExplore.exe, not Explore.exe...unless there is a mozilla kernel now? ;)

Ahh, hehe my bad. It could be your explorer is moving some of the cache around, some of the swap file also. Or you're doing something HD intensive, that seems to get explorer locked up pretty good
