* pounds Vs kg

and many more.

I think its more of like clash between the top notch nations. US being a super power sets its own standards but don't you think it would better had we a universal standard.

The US still uses the imperial system, why? Because we are stubborn and resist change. Plus the cost of changing just isnt worth it.

Oh really? It's costing a lot not changing it. Think failed mars missions.

And penis size. What sounds better? 6 inches or FIFTEEN FVCKING CENTIMETERS...BAM!

:laugh:

That cost of changing our entire infrastructure will make that seem like pennies.
Keep in mind your talking changing tons of little things that would needed to be changed everywhere. Its not as simple as changing 65 miles per hour speed limits signs to 105 killometers per hour

If everyone used imperial this would not have been a problem. The whole world is learning english because of us, why stop there.

Sure we can have a universal standard. As long as it's ours! 😀

110V is safer than 220V; less amperage will go through a person if they touch a 110V line than a 220V line.

Because we are better than you.

And we can do whatever the hell we want and STILL be the most powerful nation in the world.

You got that right! Screw Europe. They are backward in so many other ways its not even funny. Better question is why doesn't europe switch to the way we do things? Hmmmmmm.....We bow to noone, especially France (those god forsaken rapists in Africa), Germany, and so on.

This is what you would base changing on? This is laughable. Anyway, think the European lander that also disappeared without a trace and then think of 2 Mars rovers driving all across the Martian landscape for over a year. One purely American, one purely European. Enough said.

Some president tried to switch us but the world exploded.

Basically we don't want to change, what we have works, and there isn't a pressing need to change. I don't know why they waste our tax dollars trying to find life on mars, it isn't going to happen, so stop wasting our money and stop risking peoples lives. I remember a teacher in school tried to convince us that the metric system is better, and we all stared blankly at her and wondered what kind of american would suggest such a terrible thing. hehe.

with the 220v comes a failsafe which cuts the power if it leaks, so chance of even being hurt by sticking a fork into an outlet is about none

P = I V

The power consumed by an appliance is the same no matter what country its in. When the volts are low, the current is high, and I've heard that "it's the current that kills you".

You don't understand. Your body has it's own resistance. Since the resistance between you and ground is a constant, the power of the appliance doesnt matter. The wall socket has an electrical potential of 220V so 220 * R vs 110 * R.

It is amps that kill, but volts help. If you have a large resistance in series between you and ground that will lower current and help, A LOT.

and the safety system still works, 220v comes in and 220v must come out, if it doesnt the system cuts power.. it works.. I know... dont ask 😛

also at least here we dont need surge protectors

I think you are talking about something like a ground fault circuit interrupter, but applied to the entire house wiring.
