<< most doas are msi. And asus, recently with the a7a have been nothing but problems. Most the boards i sell are MSI's and they seem to do great once they leave the door >>
I've owned 2 Abit boards now. I've not had any troubles out of either of them. I do believe people when they say that the RMA rates are high (too many people agree for it to be heresay), but when you do get a board that works the Abit ones are top notch. I've had an Epox before as well. Whilst it was generally a good board, the parallel port did fail on me after 2 weeks of use. I wouldn't hesistate to recommend either though.
Like i ssaid, most my DOAS are msi. But the ones that arent are great! ;-)
most problems with abits are user problems, they mess em up. Abit is known as the overclockers board and thats why they have such a high rma raite, becuase only people who like to screw around with hardware buy them. If you know what you are doing, abits are the most reliable boards out there.

If you know what you're doing you can make almost any motherboard reliable.
Abit still got quality control problems, do you really think all of the failures are contributed by user error? The general quality on their boards are two or three notches lower than MSI's.
<< Why is everyone recommending Epox instead of Abit >>
Get into the NOW. Abit WAS the thing to get, in their time, due to it being the only overclockers option. Unfortunately, that time has passed. They are now just another substandard motherboard manufacturer, who by virtue of their ad presence across the web, still manage to lure the throwbacks to the late 90's to their bankroll.
They are the epitome of a junk vendor. Deal with it, and move on.
<< im probably gonna get a new board for my dad, im getting a duron 800 for him, should i get msi, epox or iwill, he likes stability better since all he does on the comp is reading, so i would like the board with the best stability and good performance. >>
I'd get an MSI board. I'm using the MSI K7T Pro mainboard (based on the KT133 chipset) and it's really stable.
I dont get what you guys are talking about, PC Chips is the best!!!!111!!!
bleh I like abit still because of their innovativeness (is that a word? I think it is)
and because they kixz0r
I remember when Epox was hated... I used to hate shuttle, I'm suprised they're pumping out quality nowadays...
Epox is better than Abit in every conceivable way. If you took the top Athlon/Duron overclocks on this board, I'd bet that the majority would be Epox boaards. Iwill's would probably be 2nd and somewhere trailing behind you would find Asus and Abit.
Just look around AT, you'll find some hella overclocks with Epox boards. You'll be hard pressed to find an awesome Abit overclock.

I've got an old p2 350 running that still runs great for almost 3 years now and it's on a pcchips motherboard; still can't believe it's running. It never has any compatability problems either. But I know pcchips sucks I must have gotten lucky.
phunny, BenSkyWalker said the MSI is extremely stable. Betcha didnt know the KT7E uses a different chipset so you cant compare them directly!? Go away, little troll.
Ok, ill give ya MSI's a great board, but not epox. And you people who have problems with abit more than likely messed them up your selves. Most people who think their abits died on them are wrong. Abit does have a few bugs that make you think they are dead, but if you know how to work around them you will almost never have to rma one. Honestly i will reccomend a MSI over an abit over abit just because they are really hard to screw up because they dont have any features in the bios that will mess them up and cause them not to post like the abits do.
Right now ASUS is on my sh*tlist, their recent boards have been crap as far as compatibility especially under win2k. Abits and MSI's are flawless
The 8k7a is the best motherboard I have every purchased. It has been nothing but a rock (stability wise) since I bought it. I always considered the abit kt7 that I owned a little flakey, since it would start up right away whenever I plugged it in. I don't really consider that a special feature.

who cares if it uses a different chipset, it's still a better mobo
and who said that i'm comparing?
and who are you to call me a troll?
Yea, sure you can say the KT7E is better compare to the lowly Pro2A, then again I can name a dozen more thats better than the KT7E. Yes, you are a troll, you just registered today, you dont have your profile enabled, and you're a junior, go away.
heheh funny stuff. I dunno, my next board will probably be another abit or maybe even a shuttle (they have been pretty decent l8ly, altho they sucked in the past). Epox, i never had really good luck with so far so i dunno, but its gotta be better than these damn asus boards.
