I never really researched the topic, but I ignorantly always though that Georgia is completely innocent and Russia is the big bad guy in this recent South Ossetian war. Only recently when I researched it more did I find out that Georgia first attacked South Ossetia, then Russia came in to help them since Russia sees them as an independent country.

So I'm wondering why the US is so pro Georgia in this issue? I'm guessing it comes down to oil, since there is oil in Georgia and the US doesn't want Russia to harm their "ally".

Because it's politically advantageous to defend the poor defenseless fledgling democracy against the evil Russian empire.

McCain actually buys into that bullshit, unfortunately. Georgia was the aggressor in the latest conflict. They had no business launching an offensive in Ossetia. They got served.

LOL, like Obama doesn't?

Like his position on Israel, Obama's position on Georgia is the result of the political reality here.

People actually think they are that different. The rabid lefties are going to get a big surprise when Obama doesnt grab our guns, pass 100% social healthcare, or take away 50% of the top earner's net worth and hand it to poor people.

Yeah, when McCain calls Iran evil, it's because he's a warmonger. When Obama says it, he's just doing it because he needs to be electable.

You mean Georgia invading South Ossetia, an independent republic? Nothing at all wrong with that?

No, but he's spending $1 billion of our grandkids money to Sackofshitvelli.

But, hey, we can afford it, not like there's any problems in the USA, right? Right?

Similar to Kosovo as it was assimilated into a larger country by Communist edict.

Call it what you want. They may not be internationally recognized, but for all practical purposes they are an independent democracy.

Don't know - you'd think after getting drubbed by Alabama last Saturday, they'd tone it down a bit. :)

Actually the only reason the Neocons support them is because of the Oil Pipeline that flows through the center of that country.
