Why is DS9 so much more exciting than TNG?

I've been re-watching DS9 on Netflix lately. My observations:

I've been watching on netflix to but for me this is the first time. I've managed to eek my way through SO4E7 but if something doesn't happen soon I think I might just walk away. So far DS9 hasn't really impressed me.

The first several seasons were boring as all hell to me. Once the Dominion shows up it starts picking up, but it doesn't really gain speed until season 5 I think.

DS9 was terrible... I mean abysmal.
Voyager was OK, but DS9 never should have existed.

Wesley vs. Sisco's kid, who would win in a fight

Hmm. Even before he was turned into a demigod, Wesley was still one of the smartest people on the Enterprise. Jake Sisko eventually become a one hit wonder author.

Actually, none of those things really equate to ass kicking ability, but I guess Wesley's going through Starfleet Academy should have taught him something about self defence.

Umm, because what happens in one episode affects the following episode, the one after that, and the one after that. The Federation isn't as Utopian as we were led to believe; they will skirt their morals when their lives are on the line. In the end, Earth itself isn't immune to the war. Also, Worf is 10 times more badass in DS9 than he was in TNG.

Did I mention space battles? This obviously isn't the original music, but I enjoy the scene set to the BSG stuff.

At least its set in the normal 'Trek' canon, not the JJ Abrams crap. Oh, and post-Voyager not a prequel.



The idiotic temporal civil war story arc didn't have anything to do with it? 😛 Humans did start behind the other 'common' alpha quadrant races.

That sounds really good actually.

I also like that it continued the previous 40+ years of cannon instead of doing what douche bag JJ did which was build a summer airhead action movie where the character wore Star Fleet uniforms. God that thing was awful.

Bought ds9 recently and it's so damned inferior to tng that I got bored half way through. Sisko is also a fvcking terrible actor in season one. Maybe he gets better but he is just terrible in season one.

Yeah...that last movie could have had any characters in it. It was an action movie, not a Star Trek movie.

The action was good but a lot of thing annoyed me. Lens flair, giant wasteful spaces on board a spaceship, too much lens flair, etc

picard was great and gave us best of both worlds - one of the best eps of any sci fi show eva! DS9 gave us 4 seasons of win though (1-3 were poop!) thanks to ripping off parts of babylon 5 core. competition made the writers actually have to try.

i can rewatch DS9 but i can't sit through TNG - only select eps. voyager was surprisingly watchable on reruns - after 7of9 turned up

i'm also hoping for a new trek at some point but something that has a bit more thought put into it ahead of time.

It's a shame they ruined the Borg. So badass originally but they got their ass kicked every other episode in Voyager

DS9 was a complete snore. Bajor this, prophets that, Cardass-zzzzz. I wish the entire quadrant would get sucked into the wormhole and stay there.

The Defiant was legitimately badass, though.

Yeah the first seasons were really boring. The attack on the station after it had been upgraded was pretty awesome though. And yes the Defiant was awesome

Interesting. I like the evil wearing the face of evil aspect. But then I like darker shows

ST has been about the federation growing and maturing for too long. I like the idea that it has stagnated. A story line that is darker, about it's decline or something would probably do well. That seems to be a trend in general

Yeah Berman and Brega completely fucked up many things that had potential, and sometimes even overtook a project that was already working and drove it into the ground. If Paramount has any sense they'll let some young hotshot with fresh ideas take a chance and do something really interesting.
