Why is Dido not popular as she should be?

Personally I think she is one of the better european artitsts.

She sounds like just any other American artist, if you're going listen to a European band, it should at least sound something different than what you're used to. Sigur Rös is an example of something which at least doesn't sound like generic Clear Channel crapola.

A) she IS popular, you just live under a rock.
B) she does NOT deserve to be popular.

1) True (doubtful about the "rock" comment, however)
2) False (she is a much better singer/songwriter then others who are more popular)

She IS popular . . . . i have loved her first album . . . . .(since i don't buy CDs anymore, how is her 2nd?)

No idea why she is not MORE popular. . . .

. . . perhaps since she only has an album every few years?! 😉

her second cd is poorly mastered 🙁 (and so are most of them out there). havent listened to the first as much.

I look at her pictures and think that a legend like Aretha Franklin wouldn't have a snowball's chance in h*ll to break into music today. Our loss.

She may not be your cup of tea, but saying she has no talent is just ludicrous and completely false.

Sure, but

not much > Sarah McLachlan

I'm very picky, but I think Dido is excellent. Her songs are coherent, imagery-laden, and slightly out of the ordinary. And the music is sort of post down tempo, so I can dig it. Unfortunatly, being played on all the kiddie pop soft rock stations means she's guilty by association. I think my favorite that got radio play is "Hunter".

But, geez, don't go comparing Sarah McLachlan to anybody. She's Canada's freaking saving grace as far as I'm concerned. Here's to hoping she doesn't go full-on enviro-feminist on us.

Her lyrics are pretty crappy compared to other soft-ish females like sarah maclachlan and natalie merchant. Some of the music is pretty bland too, though some is quite good. I'd rate her above norah jones, though.

Natalie Merchant? I'll take Dido singing about real emotions over some chick singing about this really depressing broken wheelbarrow she found mystically metaphoric of life.

I first read "Dildo" LOL.
I have 2 Dido albums. My fav is "don't leave home". Her voice is so so, but her songs are good, fresh.

Well, so far as I can tell, dido sings about relationships in every single song on one of her albums. They are all stories right out of a B movie or crappy sitcom. Maybe they are real emotions, maybe not. Natalie Merchant has a huge variety of subjects in her songs. Some of them are about wheelbarrows, some are not. For example the song river, which is about river phoenix. Now THAT song is real emotions.
