Mustang, GT, Charger, Challenger, Camaro.

I though it was cool at first, but it's getting old already, pun intended ;)
Detroit only has a few retro models. The vast majority are still new designs. Not much of a trend, really.

I like it and hope it's here to stay. I'm tired of the bland, generic looking inverted bathtubs that have flooded the market over the last 20 years.

Mustang sparks this new wave. GM and Chrysler jumped in after seeing Ford's success with the Mustang.

I must say, even you can afford the car, you soon won't be able to afford the gas to drive it.

I love the retros, but I don't think it'll revive Big 3's fate in the U.S. (their problems lie more than car design, its also their financials and those god damn unions)

Methinks it's because of older Japanese cars (and in some sense, German cars) aren't even really worth to have retro makeovers.

After the 80s/early 90s era of anemic cars we're finlly getting balls again.

I for one welcome our new horsepower overlords.

I agree, they are coming back with some killer cars.

i like the retro looking cars. but i can't stand the retro designed interiors. that's what drove me away from the 300c.

That's true too.
I don't know much about Honda/Toyota, but I know Nissan has a deep heritage in sports cars with the Skyline and Z (240Z, 280Z, etc).

Yup, and the best thing about its design is that it has the ability to evolve nicely unlike the Mustang and Challenger

you're right, there actually aren't very many retro models, its just something else all the domestic haters can use to pick on

It's not retro across the board (e.g Fusion, Lucerne). Just a few models here and there.

edit: Oops, didn't see Knightbreed's post. Anyway, I think it's a good move to tap niche markets.

Correction... Chrysler went retro a long time ago (hell, you can say they started in '90/'91 by designing the Viper loosely off the Shelby Cobra), made a ton of loot, and now a stuggling Ford & GM have no choice but to try to copy, albeit way too late.

And you wonder why GM and Ford are dwindling away...

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Chevy, Ford, and Dodge are bringing back the mullet one retro (muscle) car at a time.

Detroit IS Hockeytown...

What does this prove? Everyone already knows the Camaro is meant to compete with the Mustang, how is this unusual?

no, a FACELIFTED mustang, nothing new it will just look different, and like always the Camaro will beat the mustang in performance and handling. and, expect the Camaro to be out in late 2007, so your talking 2 years before the facelifted mustang.

i like it......

american cars going back to how they used to be ... american. i think after the 70's/80's alot of american car design lost its way. there are some god awful looking machines knocking around from that time, probably trying to be like their jap counterparts. cars from the 70's late 60's just look proper american, they got the american style and idea.

so i like the fact theyve decided to back to the old days and retro it up!

If GM doesn't go bankrupt by '07 ;)

Baby boomers have tons of money and can identify with the retro styles. A lot of them do look nice as well.

They are all hurting, but GM is in the worst shape. The new 'maro better sell well.
