why is curved glass a feature?

it has nothing to do with viewing the screen? i would think curved glass would make it more difficult to design a protective case
 
It is sort of all of those. Better calling, protection, and it also makes it easier to use. If you think about it, if you are holding the phone with one hand, if the bottom is curved up a little bit it makes for easier access for your thumb.

Heh, all these reasons for curved glass might make sense...unless you have a Venue Pro, where the glass is curved the other way.

That seems like a random bit of trolling there, you must have been getting desperate!

Case makers are always very keen to get cases(and other stuff) out early for Apple devices, its one of the only things I wish Android phones had.

ya, the first troll was at least accurate. manufacturers know cases for iStuff will sell, so they will make crap for new devices quickly. not having an iThing, i hate it since my zuneHD doesnt have much in the way of accessories, my droidX has a decent amount tho. not to the degree of my kids iTouch tho.

what phones are getting curved glass? it would make sense tho, i am very careful about not laying my phone down on the glass side since it is pretty much flush. im so conditioned to it, i doubt i would place a curved screen phone face-down either, but it would probably help overall. too bad there hasnt been a way developed to make a display out of mylar or lexan. a flexible phone would be way cool.

Thats pretty self evident and one of Apples strengths.
 
I wasnt trolling, it was my opinion and I have evidence to support it. Go to any online accessory store, any shop in the mall, and the number one extra is for Apple products, especially whichever iPhone is the latest.
Why?
Because they are the most popular.

No one is trolling here but you. What he said is accurate, and hardly a knock on Apple. If anything, it's a compliment to the success and popularity of the iPhone. Christ you're sensitive.

...and this is the perfect example of an Apple zealot.
The guy complimented the fact that Apple devices have tons of aftermarket products, but since he didn't specifically say, Apple Rules, you took it as a slam and had to try and defend your position.

My HTC Sensation 4G has curved (beveled) glass edges. I don't see how it affects making cases. IT's not like the things are shaped like boomerangs.
 
Well, I don't think a slightly curved front surface would make creating shells for the back any harder. In fact, even full-body cases shouldn't be that much harder to make.

Then again, I think it's all about touch perception while swiping. Personally, I prefer a thinner layer of flat glass over a curved layer with the screen so far away.

What he said is accurate. Case makers will always make cases for apple products due to their popularity. Where he is wrong is stating that apple chose curved glass specifically because they could fuck over their case manufacturers.

It just another pathetic attempt to paint apple as the evil bad guy that will fuck over anyone and do whatever the hell they want. Look at his post history, its a continuing theme. it might be different if it was anyone else, but he has a history of always painting apple as the evil empire

This whole thread took a turn for the worse because you misinterpreted what he wrote. The words that he used do not justify your reaction. In fact, what Shortlickens wrote could be interpreted as a compliment towards Apple. I agree with everyone else that you have overreacted, and I am giving a warning to try to be less sensitive in the future because this whole discussion over who may or may not be a troll isn't useful.
