why is culture so strict?

Ok i was working today & got in a huge fight about culture. I was talking to an Indian lady and i asked her what would she do if her daughter married an american guy & she goes "ill kick her out and won't support her" this got me in a debate i told her what if she LOVED him and she said no she will marry an indian or i wont see her. I then said this is ur freakin daughter u should support her no matter what and then she wouldnt talk to me for the rest of the day ... so anyways i know culture is good to help people stick together but u have to mix and match and etc 😕 so anyways reply and tell me why and how can i prolly show her the light outside her narrow mind in my point of view.. and no i dont like her shes real young 😉

- Humans are usually irrational.

- Many people stick to traditions and cultural values which are of no practical use.

- You've about as much chance to show her what's outside her little world as you've chance to convince a theist that s/he is wrong.

<< The same "tunnel vision" outlook lives among the religious right in the US. >>

You got that right! article on cnn

It's worthy of note that the two people who complained were:

Ken Connor, president of the conservative Family Research Council
James Dobson, president of Focus on the Family

Anytime you see the word "family" in an organization, you know you're dealing with stupid, closed-minded, bigoted, right-wing, ultra-conservative, intolerant, useless people who could care less about such things as, well, Freedom of Speech...

Accept for the Manson Family 😉

Well, they were a few of those things...

Doesn't necessairily mean religion. Say someone from the KKK has a daughter, and will only let her marry white people. Not a religion issue. Or someone who's asian (like the indian woman you're talkin about) won't let their kid marry someone who isn't of their nationality. I'm lucky i don't got psycho rents like that.
