why is CPUs and Overclocking your favorite ATF subforum?

Because they promote a positive environment for discussion. ie. Sticky: Warning Regarding Personal Attacks and Baiting in CPU.

I think many other forums could learn a thing or two from this forum. :)

because the cpu is the central part of a PC, shouldn't the cpu forum be the central part of a PC oriented forum ? :)

Because it's at the top of the hardware and technology forum listing.

I find there are often technical discussions that interest me (and I learn from) here. Highly Technical is good too, but many of the threads there are on topics I don't have a personal interest in.

Because AnandTech got its start as a CPU review website, so of course it's only logical that the best forum here be the CPU forum.:)

one word: IDontCare :D join the IDC fanclub today!

but seriously, knowledgeable people make for better discussions than the VC&G fanboys.

Because:

I've become a BIOS-tweaking junkie (and sort of a pun there . . . ) I don't just "build computers" anymore; I absolutely have to tweak them.

There is overlap between CPUS & Overclocking and other forums, but we can intelligently discuss "other forum issues" as they pertain to OC'ing and tweaking -- here.

I'll second Borealis7's nomination, with a point being that there are a lot of "old hands" among our membership.

Also, this is a fairly serious forum, and Anand posts articles that directly bear on the discussions here. It's a valuable web-site.

Somehow, also, I just get an impression that the members here can be a bit more literate or knowledgable than posters elsewhere, but this shouldn't be taken to mean that other forums aren't just as informative.

I can't explain it and don't understand why but it just is.

For me it is the two-fold overlap of (1) the people who comprise the sub-community that interact here in "CPU", and (2) the science behind the topic itself is very interesting to me (process nodes, microarchitecture, business strategies, etc).

I can get (2) at pretty much any technical-facing forum as there are lots of knowledgeable people across the web these days, but (1) is unique to AnandTech and so this is where I personally find myself enjoying time logged into a forum.

So I come here for (2), but I stay because of (1).

edit: LOL @Borealis7 and @WhoBeDaPlaya - that made my day :D :D :D

As long as it isn't near the release of an over-hyped but poor performing product, it's pretty tolerable. (p4, eek)

Couldn't you think of a more recent over hyped but poor performing product???

Not without starting a poopstorm when that wasn't my interest. I don't want to single out the most recent because they all cause the same crap, and at least the P4 one is so long ago that I can mention it without anyone white knighting Netburst.

I think the discussions actually are better in this subforum because there is a clear leader and follower. Intel parts dominate, AMD makes some interesting stuff, but really doesn't compete on the high end. There's not much to argue about. :)

Because there is so much information to learn from here although it isn't my major and not what I will be doing for a living. Plus IDC is here. ;)

That is not necessary. For instance you don't see heated arguments that often in, say, Memory and Storage, Cases & Cooling, Motherboards, etc. and there aren't clear leaders in those industries either. I think you're thinking of the same "problem child" subforum I'm thinking about when I think of forum drama, though. :)

+1 on the IDC. IDC and IPC FTW!

IDC, how about you give me your CPUID and I'll process you later. *blush*

Darn it! And I was trying to be cool!
