Why is Counting Cards Illegal

Seems to me that it's a skill, like knowing the odds of getting various poker hands. Doesn't seem like it would be cheating to me.

third paragraph

Card counting is not illegal in most places, so you shouldn't get arrested for doing it - but the problem is most casinos will kick you off the tables if it's suspected well before you make any real money trying. (Legalities Aside; It's the casinos right since casinos are privately owned businesses.)

While counting cards is not illegal in most locations, it's certainly not welcomed by the house. There are very few locations where a player has an absolute right to play. In most casinos, a player can be ejected from a game (or even the premises) at the sole discretion of the house (they don't need to have proof or state a reason)?and a player who is routinely ejected may end up on the infamous "black list" of players who are unwelcome in any casino. For that reason, a player who wants to count cards must be discreet.

No. The casinos would like you to believe that card counting is illegal, immoral, and fattening, but the fact is that card counters are simply using a greater level of skill than the typical blackjack player. The Nevada courts have ruled that blackjack players are free to use any information that is made available to them, provided that there is no collusion between a player and casino personnel. For example, if a dealer accidentally handles the cards in such a way that a player can see the dealer's hole card, the player can make use of this information without breaking the law.

It's not cheating, it something that you can do to gain knowledge of the upcoming cards. The casios are a private business and are not in the business to loose money so if they suspect you are couting they will kick you out.

Can someone explain what counting cards means?

Cards Jack through Ace are a minus one.

Cards 2 through 6 are a plus one.

7, 8 and 9 are neutral cards.

You keep track by adding and subtracting the pluses and minuses. If you're in the positive, then there are a lot of high cards and your chances are much better to win the hands.

If the count is minus, then there are more low cards and your chances of winning aren't as good.

so can you take out a laptop or pda

Card counting is pretty much a thing of the past in Vegas now with shufflemaster on a majority of the tables on the strip.

It isn't cheating, but think of the house as a player... If someone at your buddy's weekly card game doesn't want to play anymore, you can't make him play. So the house has every right to kick you out.

How does it prevent card counting?

Nope, that is considered cheating under Nevada gaming laws.

Is that all? I thought it was more complicated than that. That's easy.

When you double post like that, you should split.

It sounds easy, but try keeping track of EVERY card (possibly at least 12 or so at a time) at a table.

Not only that, you have to do it in a noisy and chaotic environment. It is certainly not as easy as it sounds.

Because each dealt hand is reshuffled.

In theory it's simple, in practice it's not. Most casino's Ive played at the BJ games move so fast that you have to very good to keep up. And when you are quickly scanning all hands and adding/subtracting the results, the dealer often sees your eyes darting all over the table and can alert the pit boss.

Eight decks in the shoe, No they dont reshuffle until 2/3 of the shoe has been dealt. Are you telling me that you of know of people who can count against the shoe?

No, just wondering how that's different than the local indian casinos in terms of counting. What exactly does the shufflemaster have over hand shuffling? And although I don't know any personally, I'm sure that there are players who can count against a shoe. What would be the point in counting a single deck anyway? Single deck is shuffled after every hand. So my thoughts would be that counters only count against multiple deck shoes, keeping track of high and low cards, and varying their bets accordingly.

Shufflemaster reshuffles after every hand dealt. Counting works to your avantage on single and doubledeck games. Shuffling after each hand on single deck does not accur if you are playing alone at the table. And this forum jrun error is starting to suck big time.
