Why is Candy Crush as popular as Angry Birds? ($750k/wk profit)

how the hell did it became the next digital crack?

i havent tried it but it looks like a deluxe version of bejeweled?

I don't know why Angry Birds is/was as popular as it is. It's not that fun considering all the hype around it.

Isn't Candy Crush just a Bejewled clone?

I've only seen a small bit of it but it does seem to be just a clone with some social networking added to it. Seems to be highly addictive and competitive for some reason. Can't fault them for raking in all this cash on something unoriginal and silly.

The Candy Crush game seems to be designed for maximum profit, though. Although it's a "free" game, they add levels that are practically impossible to win without paying for some conveniently purchased in-game powerups. Then you're good for a few levels before you hit the next Paywall/Road Block level. Really lame.

I had been ignoring Candy Crush, but I actually really like.

It's a Bejeweled clone, but with goals. The goals make it a bit easier to play.

So far, I've not spent anything on it.I don't plan to either. The catch is that you onl have 5 lives max per play and if you don't accomplish the goal, you have to wait for your lives to build up. I'm at 30 minutes a life now. It doesn't bother me. It lets me play and then gives me a good stopping point, so I don't mind. I also haven't purchased any of the power ups.

Does that mean I play one of the boards for three days in a row before finally getting everything to fall my way? Yes.

people in your social network can give u stuff to get past that road block.
ie: multiple mule accts connected to you.

heard when u get past lvl 65, it's more like 10days of trying if u dont want to pay or if you dont have a strong social network

Tried it last night, meh, OK at best. The most fun game out now IMO is "Beach Buggy Blitz", awesome racing game, whacking seagulls is a blast and you can actually get enough coins to upgrade your ride without spending a dime and no ad's during game-play, a rarity these days

Surprised PopCap hasn't sued them yet. Unless Bejewled is a clone of something else too.

The money is in the in-app purchases. 99c here, $1.99 there, and you start raking in the dough. Most people likely get stuck on levels and think, "Oh what the hell, take my money."

Probably because they resort to sneaky web ads that hijack your browser and redirect you to a Candy Crush download page.

Happened to me when I was browsing forums without adblock.

Woah 750k per WEEK?!?! I need to code a silly Facebook game. :awe: That's insane. Even if those games end up fading away and don't last forever like WoW and such (what ever happened to Farmville?) you are rich at the end anyway. Like winning the lottery and set for life.

I play angry birds sometimes, but that's about it. I never put any money into these games, I find they're nice time wasters but not something I'll spend lot of time on.

level 65 is one of the toughest levels. Then level 125 (IIRC) is really hard. I'm at 147 and have not spent any money other than $.99 for each new section (about $5 total).

Or maybe you whippersnappers don't remember Columns.

I don't get why Angry Birds, Candy Crush, Temple Run, or any of those shitty titles are making millions.

Bigger target audience, lower cost to user. Consoles can only make so much because there is a limited number of people willing to pay for the hardware, plus relatively high up front cost for the game. PC gaming has a stigma of being too complex.

I have not paid much attention to console gaming, but it would be interesting to see how successful a console title would be if it were free with a pay to play element.

Anecdotal evidence time: Everyone I know who is a console gamer plays these mobile games. A lot of people I know who are not console gamers plays these mobile games.
