Why is Brahms esteemed?

The dude is unengaging and the only thing he has going for him was that he had a hot-to-me photograph.

To put him on the level of Beethoven and Bach is academics having their heads up their ass.

I am not spending another 40 minutes of my life to re-listen to the disorganized mess of a violin concerto.

Mendelssohn > Brahms

Died much too young!
Mendelssohn's violin concerto is straight up fire.

I take a liking to his 2nd Piano Concerto as well, and those piano trios were good. Serkin does the 2nd Piano Concerto justice.

Bah, Bach was three centuries ahead of his time. He composed 8-bit video game music before anyone knew what that was.

You're a Mariah Carey fan. Therefore, your opinion is meaningless.

Spell the name right, old man.
Mutt Lange, Jon Farrar, Don Felder, Carlos Santana, and Pete Townsend can also write better Jo-a-hack-nes Brahms. Brahms sounds like a mere mortal desperately clinging on to bits of Beethoven because he couldn't write anything better or most importantly...coherent....the only time he followed the KISS principle was his Lullaby.

Having the harpsichord be one of the main keyboard instruments helped create the environment to create his sound. So, Bach also translates to guitar....

Thus, rock can also sound quasi-Baroque at time.

Come to think of it, I haven't listened to Bach in at least three years.

Afterlife war between Brahms and Liszt:
Liszt: My Hungraian Rhapsody lives on via Looney Tunes
Brahms: My lullaby only needs word of mouth to keep it's life. They don't even know my name, bitch.
Liszt: I'm a legend of the piano...you're a one-hit wonder.

Tchaikovsky butts in: I'm the real melodic one, you all suck in comparison.

He's basically Walmart/Harbor Freight Beethoven.

Trying to listen to his first Piano Concerto...when all else fails...sample from master Ludwig. The Adagio clearly borrows from Beethoven 32nd piano sonata and the opening quotes the second Symphony of Beethoven.

Love how Brahms music is played for more than a century and this clown comes along to bad mouth Brahms' work. Stick to Mariah Carey, that seems to be your upper limit.

Care to be informed Tchaikovsky or Liszt didn't have a high opinion of him?

No doubt Brahms helped foster the grandiose and lethargic interpretations of Beethoven in years past.

There is nothing the populace gains from listening to Brahms except a intellectual course in how mere mortals tried to follow Beethoven and suck doing it. He served a purpose in satisfying the unlearned masses of the day though who needed someone to employ Beethovenian effects, however unnaturally.

LoL people from the same professsion not liking others. More at eleven.

Also, you think Mariah is a great composer, that disqualifies you musically.

I enjoy his Symphony No 1 in C minor, Op 68

Horn Trio

Violin sonata no 3

Her harmonies are on point in all places. Even in the more subdued Music Box album, that aspect did not disappear. From chaos comes order with her writing. "Make It Happen" is a primer on how to attack notes differently on each repeat(might be a bit of a bore though for non-nerds).

Will take a listen. Hatred levels of Brahms actually are miniscule compared to the Billie Eilish hatred I have.
