Why is Antec 350 Watt Power Supply not AMD Approved?

The PP352X is not on the AMD approved list. It sports +5V and +3.3V combined output of 180W, more than many other supplies on the list. Max of +5V at 33.0A and +3.3V 20A also seems good. Am I missing something? Best Buy did not carry the 412 Watt version and I needed it now, and I am happy with the noise level and not motivated to upgrade It bothers me, though, that my new PSU is not on the list!

Don't worry about the AMD approved power supply list. It's meaningless. That 350W ps will do just fine; moreover, it's damn hard to find a 300+ Watt power supply which will not power your XP1500+

If the AMD approved power supply list was meaningless, why would they put it out?
I have seen many people having problems because of an insufficient Power Supply.

true, but there seems to be some very good powersupplys that aren't on the list. I'm pretty sure my enermax 350watt isn't and my system is rock solid

No arguments here. I have the original non-P4 300W Antec PP-303X power supply and check out all the crap it runs in my system!

HGC's system should be no match for the Antec 352X 😀

If it`s not on the list it probably means it has not been tested yet by AMD or they have not got round to it yet.The list is getting bigger slowly but AMD can`t test every possible PSU brand & model available,so the AMD approved PSU list is a good guide to some that have been tested & approved.

Remember there`re some PSUs that have not been tested by AMD that would pass & be on the AMD approved list.

Thanks for the input guys. I did notice that the PP303X was absent from list as well. Yet surely these two Antec PSs as good as some of the 250 Watt supplies that made the list. Perplexing...

FWIW I believe the Antec PP-352X is made by Heroichi? If you look at the bottom of your power supply label you should see something like "HEC-350LD" which, in fact, is on the AMD approved list up to XP 2100+ 😉

IIRC, my Antec 303 is listed under "Antec" up to only Athlon 900? 😕

But I think it's made by someone else, too. I'm just too lazy to look at it...

My shuttle AK31A seems to be very pick about PSU's. The 300Watt PSU that came with my Enermax chassis didn't have enough juice to power up a 1ghz t-bird on my ak31a. Bah...and I thought enermax was a good brand.....I resolved this issue by picking a cheap Allied Systems PSU that was AMD approved. Popped it in and booted up fine.............yay!

Agreed. The pp352x is a relatively new model, I think.

Related question for the PS experts 🙂 Can too little power damage a CD/DVD-ROM drive? I had three drives slowly fail while I was running the the AK31A with a PC Power & Cooling 275W PS. I put in the 350W Antec and the DVD drive started up for the first time in weeks. It was still erratic though, so I bought a new CDRW and it works perfectly, without the slow startup I was used to with previous drives.
