Actually, there is a semi-serious side to this. Forum server bandwidth isn't infinite, which is one reason why neffing is discouraged. And some things get posted again and again, week after week (it seems like), and some questions are mentioned again and again. Windows messenger serving you spam? Try the search button. etc.

Still, there doesn't need to be the current "I saw that posted on 12th July 1999! REPOST REPOST REPOST! attitude, but some people just enjoy trumping others.

You've been Skoorbed buddy, the odds of a Lifer from 2001 not knowing what "nef" means are approximately 1.0*10^(-247)

 
People shouting repost are about as bad as people who post "in before the lock", it's just to get attention as you stated. If a topic is posted a second time and gets interest, then it has value to the forums and is good. If nobody wants to discuss it, then it will disappear into the abyss on it's own. There is no need for any intervention by the community in either case.

In these cases, it's fine, but it's twats who scream repost and say something like "this was posted 6 months ago, use the search feature" that piss me off. If something was posted months ago, I don't think it's a cardinal fvcking sin to bring it back up for discussion. Not everyone here sees every thread the first time it has ever been posted.

I still think saying repost should be a bannable offense. 🙂
