Why is a lion considered the King of the Jungle?

It doesn't live in the jungle and add to the fact that it wouldn't last against an elephant, hippopotamus, or rhinocerous.

What do you mean it doesn't live in the jungle? I thought it nests in the African jungles and hunts in the valley's. I may be wrong but I thought I saw that on Discovery one day. Just asking by the way.

Because it is the apex predator......elephants might be able to kill a lion, but they do not prey on lions....

A lot of them live in desert/plains areas.

Leave the lions alone. No one accuses George Bush of not being the president because he spends more time on vacation than any previous president!

Are you sure about that? Male lions are like 3x size of females and I've seen one with one paw swat down a huge water bison - dead on contact. Granted you don't see him hunt much because the women do it but when it does it's a site.

Yeah, but you said 1 lion = 3 lionesses, right.

not exactly. One male lion has enough power and speed to knock out most huge prey. It's like 3 girls might be as stong as 1 lennox lewis but the girls could hit you all day long while lennox hits you once and good night.

Male lions aren't 3x the size of females and they're also slower. The females are also typically the hunters. I also highly doubt you ever saw a male lion kill a huge water bison with one swat, unless it was an old and decrepit one.

they are not slower - way faster both in agility and top speed. And I saw it on discovery. Also one took out a crock that beached virtually instant again.
