Because, despite the new Marchitecture, it generally performs like the 4th iteration of 5th generation technology!
Really, how much longer before the 'Pentium' moniker is synonymous with 'ancient technology'??? Maybe they can come up with a name without '-ium', and unload those STUPID bunny people!

I think they still call it a Pentium because most people think the company Intel is named Pentium. And vice versa.

piku,

It's even worse than that. I can't count how many times people have called me about system upgrades and when I ask what processor they say "Pentium". It comes in the door, and it's an AMD or Cyrix.

You could have applied this same question to AMD up until a little while ago.

Intel has other names for it's P4's. They're named Wilamette (Willamette?). Also, the up-and-coming IA-64 is named Itanium. The sufix "anium" pertains mostly to metals. Intel wants to cold and strong against it's competitors.

It's interesting what you learn when you work there.

Yeah Pentium 4 is getting a little ridiculous now. I am sure they are getting tired of it too, but as long as grandmas keep shopping at walmart asking for the Pentium computers, they wont change much.

That's precisely why they still call it Pentium. It's one of the most recognized names in the computer industry, and people know the name and ask for it.
