From a genetics standpoint, it's bad for the species. High genetic variation among mates = ensures high genetic variation among future generations of humans, meaning that if something catastrophic happens in the future, then at least some of us will be "resistant" to it and survive, therefore perpetuating the species. Inbreeding after many, many generations produces individuals with almost identical genomes (and highly defective ones at that). And as you can imagine, if everybody had the same genome, then we could all potentially be wiped out by some disaster.
In short, it's an evolutionary mechanism designed to prolong the survival of one's species. So stop kissing your cousins.
