Why in the world does Calif still have checkpoint at state borders?

This state does not have enough money to pay its police firefighters and teachers and yet on every freaking highway, when you enter the state, you are stopped and asked about if you are carrying any "seeds" or fruits??? OMG, common already, get over with our stupid agricultural policies, if someone wants to carry some seeds that you don't like, believe me, they will get it in. Also its not even a real check point. All they do is ask, they don't actually check anything. What a waste of resources IM(<>H)O...

They should start checking for illegals at the checkpoints. Think how much money that would save the state.

Because agriculture is a huge part of their economy and they don't need people bringing in some mutant fungus that kills all avocados or something.

Not like they just do it for the lulz.

yah I get what they're there for but I doubt they really are effective at blocking anything, and they're probably a pretty insignificant part of the budget, but every little bit helps.

I'd bet my testicles that it would be a fuckton less than the social services cost of the illegals and their anchor babies. What do you think?

Dangerous bet.

Just the legal costs alone would be overwhelming, nevermind the actual cost of "shipping them back".

But those are 1 time costs. How much does it cost the state to put a child through its k-12 public school system? How much does it cost the state for someone to be on food-stamps for 5 years? 10 years? How about other social services?

You cant really think its cheaper to keep them there vs sending them back

I think that's a pretty easy bet. A one time cost vs "X" years of multiple services.

I don't think they legal costs would be as high as you think as I don't think they get as many repeal attempts as regular court cases get.

But midwest is wheat and corn, and Florida is citrus/sugar. All the pests and diseases for those have already spread to those areas, and growers tend to have a good handle on them. California grows a wider variety of food than either of those other regions. The pittance they spend on those stations would be paid back many fold if they were able to slow or stop a disease from destroying an entire crop.

And how in god's name did this derail to illegal immigrants? Does it really have to happen to every thread related to California?

What are you fucking talking about? I drive into Lake Tahoe 10-12 times a year. What freaking checkpoint do you get stopped? Oh that one where you stop voluntarily and 99.999 percent of all vehicles drive right by? Gotcha.

Shrug. That's like not even the border. It's the entry into Lake Tahoe, CA. The actual border is just like in the middle of some road. You just drive right across. Nothing's there. I don't understand the fuss.

That's over-the-top even for P&N. You've earned yourself an infraction.

I've never been stopped at a checkpoint when driving into CA. What the hell is the OP talking about? The Mexican border?
