Why I think the iPad is better than Android

Another vote of love here for the ipad mini form factor. I don't really care for Apple policies, etc. but every time I use the the mini I am reminded how much I like the extra surface area compared tom my 7" Android device.

And with a case on, I certainly can't fit a Kindle Fire in my pocket, so I find that to be a mute point.

In any case, baited thread is a baited thread. No winners here 🙂

from hardware perspective, iPad mini has been unbeatable except against a few specialized Android tablets.

In what world was it better from a hardware perspective? I'll give you iOS does better on lesser hardware, but the mini is the punchline for late 2012 hardware.

If they had released the current iPad Mini at $230 and then, a year or so later, released a higher-end iPad Mini at $330, then I think they would have just been tossed around in the press and by consumers.

I'm expecting the current iPad Mini to drop to $230 and for a newer, higher powered iPad Mini with a Retina display to hit the $330 mark.

Well, more $$$ than I was hoping for. 16gb still useless and 270 for 32gb version is a rip. May look into a Nook HD or Asus Memo HD or something like that. that bezel looks like ass and makes it look cheezy.

Now, the reasoning that I'm giving will never be proven. It's simply my best guess of why Apple came to the 8" form factor at a more premium price than everyone was expecting (rumors were pegging it at $250) with hardware that was already almost two years old by the time it launched.

The real tell for me will be when the Mini gets refreshed and if Apple decides to compete in the sub-$300 market or if they concede that market to Android.

The overcharge parts your opinion, the iPad Mini's worth every penny imho, As for lowering the price when you release a new version, that's common for all hardware. Google lowered the price on the previous Nexus 7 model, I guess that means it was overpriced huh?

The lower display resolution of the iPad Mini should've helped its performance more than it did.

I agree the OG N7 has a higher resolution but if 1280x800 versus 1024x768 is a make or break for your device's performance, then we got trouble. I think it's safe to say that Android just needs higher system requirements. We aren't at the point yet where a lower mid-range phone still feels speedy.

Yeah Windows Phones will do that with Bluetooth, next to no head units have native Android support, a few oddball ones do exist. But most just work with basic Bluetooth shit. With mine I can access the Calendar, play Final Fantasy, use the phones Navigation and control any app on my iPhone. My head unit also works with Android, but it'll only ddo about 1/8th of what it can with an iPhone.

I love both my iPad 4 and my new Nexus 7 2013. And am a fan of both iOS and Android for their different strengths.

My iPad is very reliable and consistent. But also boring and limited. I can install tons of apps on this iPad and the performance of the iPad always stays the same. However Apple has let iOS get stale, it really hasn't changed much in the years I've been using it. And iOS is loaded with limitations such as no file system, no widgets, no third party apps (without Jailbreaking), etc.

So I love that my iPad is always so consistent and fast, and has a great tablet app ecosystem. But there are things it won't do for me.

On the other hand my Androids are more bold and reckless, they'll do whatever I ask of them, even if it's not a good idea. When I load apps, launchers, widgets, etc they have a significant impact on my experience and functionality, but also my performance with the device. My Android is more nerdy and requires more tinkering and effort to keep running smoothly.

Not sure I'll ever be able to just stick to one. I don't see Android ever providing the consistently smooth and stable experience I get from iOS because it's too open. And iOS ever providing me with the freedom and functionality I get from Android because it's too closed.

I know. 🙂 my biggest peeve is that storage is so cheap, why even make a 16 gb version? Just standardize at 32/64 and only double the increments. Like open up with a 32 go 64 then 128. Everyone is guilty of this. Just some companies charge a $100 per 16gb premium.

Nexus 7 has to be pulled away because it's beating the iPad so badly.

Pocketable (well, my pockets anyway)

Some will say "Oh, the iPad mini hasn't been updated yet!" So? Who cares. If a person asks for my recommendation today, I will wholeheartedly tell them to get a Nexus 7. Period.

I assure you, if the general public actually cared about app performance, they would have never bought Android devices. Android pre-4.0 was atrocious. Didn't stop it from becoming the dominant mobile OS in the world.

I am not sure why price is such a big factor. It's like saying a $10 pair of Wranglers is better than a $150 pair of 7FAM jeans.

You do realize that like I gave the android device an advantage--a whole year newer + 40% higher clock speed, and the iPad is still better due to IMO fundamental properties of iOS that android cannot have.

In just about everything, iOS devices will be more fluid and lucid.

I haven't tried out the new nexus, but I anticipate that it will have the slight slowness that has plagued every single android device I have ever used.

...and yes, the iPad is more expensive. It is not by much at all. Especially by tech standards, where nvidia feels it can release a 1k video card.

At best Android can win on some synthetic benchmarks. But for everyday user experience, the ipad 2 beats most every android tablet I've ever seen. Simple things, like web surfing, are far better on an ipad than on android.

Heh. I know this is just speculation you were doing, but what's funny to me is this overpricing idea... to the tune of $100 (!!!)- to avoid the press and consumers going "Oh no, this new one costs $100 more!"

I'm not even doubting it (you're probably right) it's just funny as hell. Let's pay more for everything up-front to avoid feeling like we got ripped off by the same amount later when something new/better comes out!

Actually sounds right up Apple's alley. Establish a price point and then roll out new hardware at that point rather than discount.

My car stereo ties in flawlessly with iOS devices, it has half baked BT Android support.

Wrong. My Pioneer head unit responded immediately and perfectly to my Atrix 2 and now my GS3. You are simply quoting conventional wisdom and not speaking from experience, but then that's standard behavior from the iOS crowd, in my experience.

You know just as well that Flash is dying and even on Android it's discontinued. Talk about sideloading as much as you will, but I'm pretty sure fewer and fewer people even do that with Android devices. At the end of the day the Flash experience is less than perfect on Android. It feels rushed together and really its mainly used for illegal streams or pron or whatever. Most users will tell you that they don't even miss Flash at all.

So yes, in that case the iPad does offer a better surfing experience for the most part.
