Always had problems with Skype. Bad audio and video lag, stuttering, low quality, connection issues... it wasn't even usable.
Always had connections with skype. Seriously? Always!? I guess you always had a bad connection then. Every now and then Skype gives that underwater sound after 30-45 mins of usage, but on a good connection, it usually doesn't. I routinely skype chat with my sister in New Zealand over skype for 60-90 minutes at a time, and I have problems with Skype maybe 10% of the time, and a recall fixes everything. If your skype is always bad, it's your connection (internet or wifi).
I also Face Time with my sister sometimes too, but we got into the habit of using Skype, and she has a Windows laptop so we can only face time from my ipad (or laptop) to her phone - not ideal.
Because of a fundamental constraint in Android's design.
Basically, an iPad can prioritize one function and Android cannot. So when the UI is in use, the iPad is devoting all of its power to making the experience responsive, while Android makes the user wait in line with the various other tasks going on.
Which means that any given two tablets, with the same amount of power but one is iOS and one is Android, the iOS tablet will always be more responsive.
And Android cannot fix this without rewriting the entire OS. So basically, unless Android manages to open up an enormous speed advantage over iOS (unlikely), it will always lag in responsiveness.

If you've ever used an android tablet, and then an ipad, you'd get it immediately. the ipad is a much better experience.
There's absolutely no technical basis for your explanation. iOS, Android, Windows and Mac OS can all multitask and multithread to varying degrees. iOS and Android are both offshoots of Linux/Unix. Yes, maybe Android has more apps that generally add notifications in the notification bar than iOS, so it seems like Android is "doing more" but both OSes have similar multitasking capabilities, Apple just locks down the OS much tighter for notifications than Android.

Why I personally think the iPad is better than Android tablets - iOS has more tablet-optimized apps. That's it. I wouldn't hesitate getting a new Nexus 7 at any point (I'm going to get one when they're on sale - love the 7" form factor for reading books). I love the big iPad - it's a powerhouse of a tablet. I love the size of my wife's iPad mini but detest the screen. Once they come up with a retina version I may switch to that. Or a Nexus 7, depending on how I feel the tablet-optimized app ecosystem has evolved on Android. Last year it was only so-so compared to iOS.
I still think it's absolutely mental that Apple has different versions of so many apps for phone/tablet, so say you buy Final Fantasy V for the tablet - you have to buy a different version for the phone. That's not right! One purchase should give you access to both versions.
