why i refuse to go p4?

processor are too expensive... they don't match up too well with amd pricing. An xp2100 is only 79 bucks while p4 2000 is 151/175. That's too much to pay!
Now when you're comparing xp3000/p4 3000 both are about the same 625-632 but does not make them equally good since the value line would be AMD because they are better priced for anything below 2400mhz.

Try and resell your AMD cpu in 4 months when you upgrade - you'll wish you had gone P4 when the cpu is worth next to nothing.

Since when did people buy computer parts for the resale value? Personally, I buy hardware based on what I need, and expect to use it until it's pretty much disposable.

If you're buying your computer parts for resale value, then you're buying for the wrong reasons and only throwing your money away.

I go AMD for personal reasons (I own(ed) stock and love the Underdog) and yout reasons maybe valid to you but unimportant here ...enjoy and do what you like...meanwhile I'd like to get back to more important issues, like how happy I am that it's not $1 for each MHz anymore and how I can get 1 better value

Haha... $1 per MHz? My first computer was a 386SX @ 16 Mhz and I think I paid $2800 for it. Now my video card has more RAM than that computer had HDD storage, lol. How times have changed =) In another 10-12 years we'll be laughing at the $35 per Ghz (about) prices.

WTF?!? Selling on?! Don't you mean making another rig with it?
In terms of lower end systems, the price/performance if AMD is generally better, higher up the lines become blurred. In terms of overclocking, some of the Pentiums get better overclocks, but again AMD is improving manufacturing and becoming good for overclocking as well.
Basically AMD is the "budget" processor manufacturer down the lower end of specs. Both are even higher up, for financial reasons most probably.

My first computer had a AMD 386DX40mhz cpu, then I upgraded to a AMD 486x4 100mhz, AMD K6 200mhz, AMD K6 II 300mhz, AMD K6 II 550mhz, AMD Duron 750mhz, AMD Duron 950mhz, Athlon 1.3ghz, Athlon XP 1700 and now a Athlon XP 2000 (Thoroughbred).

Why would I want to stop buying processors made by AMD? They've always been very reliable and not a single cpu I've owned has EVER failed!
