Also, I think I am wrong and that the RPM is a bit lower @ 80.

LOL, right....... Now you're "wrong" and it's actually "lower" after reading all the responses ;) Sure, whatever you say ;)
There's nothing remarkable about the smoothness of your ride either, dude. My car is over 13 years old and it's smooth as silk @ 80mph, as well as being well within the powerband.
Final ratio in 5th gear is 3.13:1
Top speed is 143mph @ 6310 rpm
Thus 80mph = 3530rpm

Assuming stock tire size and not accounting for distortion, I assume?

my car is about the same, with a top speed of 135mph, 5th gear is like 4k RPM on the highway (maybe a little less at a reasonable speed) it's smooth too (good quality Z rated tires help :p)

yeah, but I can make an emergency lane change at 80mph and not buckle the tires... :p

I can do that as well in my 16 year old car.

Did I just have to spend an assload of cash replacing tires, steering linkage, and suspension components?
Maybe.;)

LOL, he never said anything about that ;) I just had my front axle replaced as well as the wheel bearings and tie rod ends so it's no wonder my car drives great now :p Oh yeah, the Michelin Pilot Sport 205/55/16's all around don't hurt either ;)

Lets see: replace shocks, struts, bearings, strut mounts, pittman arm, tie rod ends, centerlink, ball joints, lower control arms, panhard bar, steering brace, install subframe connectors, put on Goodyear Eagle F1s all around.
There is more but I can't remember.:)

Ahh Mwilding don't worry about these doubters. They won't know until they've driven one themselves. Doesn't matter how many articles you throw at them singing the car's praises. The other thing about AT is that the majority of them are Japanese car lovers. Nothing wrong with that. They all tout the Japanese reliability as the reason, but discounting that there are some pretty nice US made cars that they are missing out on and the reliablility is not all that much worse than a Jap car. I do a lot of work on my cars myself and it doesn't scare me to get under a hood and get dirty, so after driving a reliable Accord for 3 years I decided I was gonna go American for a change.

I hate to break it to you, but I drive an American car. Made by an American car company, in America. Can you say the same for your "American" car? Most "American" cars nowadays are made in Mexico or Canada. Trucks are a different story...

Back off Flyer. Ford is still an American car company as far as I'm concerned. Yeah they assemble cars in Mexico and Canada, but what choice do they have? They need the cheap labor to stay competitive. I'm not trying to defend them, but if you were running the company you'd do the same thing. But this is a whole other argument than what I was getting at. You are one of the very few on this forum who owns an american vehicle. Put a poll up, "Do you own american or japanese?" Guarrantee you Japanese will be most of the votes. The demographic that Anandtech caters to is computer industry oriented. Not many computer geeks work on their own cars, therefore to reduce repair costs they buy reliable cars, ie: Japanese. This is my point.

LOL, exactly what I was going to say. :)

Of course, by 1994 (10 years ago) AMC was long gone.

Sorry, didn't realize Ford was so near and dear to your heart

I didn't single out any particular American car company anyway, you did.
What choice do they have? WHAT CHOICE DO THEY HAVE? You've got to be kidding me.... If the Japanese can employ American workers to build their cars over here, why can't we? Explain that one to me.
