Why I am neither Theist or Atheist, but an Agnostic.

Lifer
I'm gonna get this off my chest finally in the wake of committed theists and atheists.

I've always thought that we're fucking arrogant. We know jackshit or just BARELY started to scratch the surface of knowledge and have the audacity to make a conclusive statement about ANYTHING.

Let's see what retards we are:
-Earth's age is 4.5 billion years old and modern human life is mere 60,000 years old. Okay, 60K sounds long enough, right?

-Only til 10,000 years ago, we were nothing but hunter-gatherers. No society whatsoever.

-Age of Reason occurred fucking 150 YEARS AGO!!! That's like YESTERDAY and two grandpas ago. Most of us also thought Earth was flat.

-We're so stupid, it was until WWII we started to sterilize medical equipments between wounded soldiers. Before that, a same knife went inside different soldiers all day. So primitive was our BASIC understanding of medical science.

-Recently. the know-it-all scientists get together and set six elements needed to define and sustain life. Just FIVE months ago, NASA finds Arsenic-based life that totally shatters our utterly premature and ignorant perspective of life.

Our intellect is so primitive and we already think we know so much. I mean, the last three bullets are just appalling for me.

How can we flat out conclusively say there is no supreme being? It's like an ant proclaiming there is no internet. Just because our HUMAN, EARTHBOUND five senses cannot perceive it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

There can be lifeforms or beings or universes in a complete different dimensions, totally outside of our conventional thinking. There can be shit flying around now in our solar system in a completely different form unimaginable.

So Atheists, I personally think it's awful arrogant for any of us to say there is no god. And originating from a big bang (which isn't even entirely scientific) isn't exactly reassuring when we thought sun revolved around earth mere 3 grandparents ago.

Theists, (especially organized religion like Christianity, Islam, Judaism, etc) you have got to be joking that the GOD that created the fabric of the entire universe is from OUR human world. Your God is all confined to human concept- love, revenge, forgiveness, original sin, etc. Earth and human life is a speck of sand in all beaches in this world. And your supreme god and its description all derived from our cultural concepts? Come on.

The Atheist position is not that there is no god. It is that the default position on any question is that something is not true until proven otherwise, else there would be an infinite amount of things we would have to believe in and go about disproving one by one.

your definition of agnostic doesn't make sense. i'm an atheist because given the current understanding, there is no rational explanation for god. if there was something to come up, i'd revise my thinking.

what else are you agnostic about? are you agnostic about purple unicorns and talking giraffes too?

edit: also, the religion is islam not muslim. muslims are the people that follow islam.

Sigh... yet ANOTHER post that completely misunderstands atheism. We don't believe because there is no evidence. It's exactly the same reason I don't believe in invisible unicorns. Are you agnostic about the existence of invisible unicorns?

EDIT: Well, both sides of PA are in agreement. 🙂

You think agnosticism is somehow "in between" the perfect dichotomy of theism and atheism.

/Me points and laughs at you

OP thinks atheism means "I believe there is no god."

In reality, atheism means "I do not believe there is a god."

There is a very real difference between "I do not believe X" and "I believe not-X," but OP does not understand that difference.

FWIW, though, there are plenty of atheists that not only don't believe gods exists, but also believe that exactly zero gods exist. This latter belief is superfluous to qualify a person's atheism.

Nobody knows more than anyone else. It's just beliefs. We weren't around zillions of years ago, so nobody here or anywhere has any true idea where shit came from. To act like you really do is just arrogant bullshit.

I simply wonder why, if the "Gawd" so often discussed is as all-knowing, all-powerful as is advertised, why the fuck would He/She/It care if we miserable humans worshipped Him/Her/It at all?
To me, it'd about the same as a colony of ants worshipping me...Why the hell would I even care? Would the fact that the ants worship me prevent me from nuking the ant colony with ant poison? I think not...

I DO NOT know how the universe came to be...whether it was created by a "magical sky fairy," or by a "big bang," but...what was it created from?
Where did the materials come from?
Where was it created?
What was "there" before there was a "there?"
If the universe was greated by "Gawd," Where was "He" before he created the universe?
Is there another "Gawd Universe" accessible only by super-beings?

Yeah. Deductive reasoning is bullshit. Because no one's run a tape measure all the way around the globe yet, we have no way of knowing the circumference of the Earth. All we have are beliefs. What impeccable logic.

You have no way of knowing that there's a computer screen in front of you. All you see are patterns of photons on your retinas -- the rest is just beliefs.

If you think you know there's a computer screen in front of you, you're arrogant. 😛

I do not accept the idea of "god" in any sense or form; therefore arguments between theists, atheists, etc are moot to me. Each side is trying to prove each other wrong. I refuse the premise.

No, religion fucked that up, and the Antikythera mechanism proves that humans knew the earth was round well over 2000 years ago. Just look at how religion evolved and you'll realize the ancient Sun god still has plenty (billions) of followers in this modern age. There is no god, just the idea of god.

I just wish that line worked on the FBI.

just chiming in, and saying my stance is exactly what the OP's is basically..

basically all we've learned is that we dont know jack shit.

so, in my life.. i've seen and felt things that i could see, as..devine, as God's work, if you will.. but i also know that, that stuff, is what another person would just as easily call "beauty." ya know, whatever it is.. it's something.. and i dont know what, i dont know if it's God, that's just it.. all im sure of, is that i dont know...

so my stance is.. Agnostic 🙂

Actually I'm atheism frequently refers to "the position that there are no deities." If one does not believe there is a god, but does not hold that there are no deities necessarily, agnostic is not at all inaccurate.
