I've searched high and low and I can't get your address from your pic and profile, so, you are probably safe. In fact, even then, you probably shouldn't worry about stoned guys on the intarweb. I'd be more concerned about the creepy guy in the bushes with the cameras...

/waving hello. ;)

Seriously, that sucks. Glad it turned out to be nothing.

/Wishing three stoned chicks showed up at my door claiming to be from the internet. Heck, they could claim to be from mars... it's three stoned chicks looking for me...

//Just Kidding, my dear wife.

Haha! Someone's been persuaded by experience.

I'm glad I'm not just Miss Paranoid. I'll admit that sometimes I seem that way, but I still strongly believe that my point of view is valid. The internet is being gradually neutralised with the regular, decent people making the internet a valid means of communication. However, until that happens completely and satisfactorily, I will never disclose my personal information that could lead one to discover my true identity in real life. Again, I know how easy it is to obtain personal profiles about someone based upon information they disclose.

I actually came close to doing that once, but the environment was one that permitted such. And luckily, the person was a distance away. The only exceptions I ever make is if I meet someone by accident (i.e., someone e-mails me accidentally) or through a hidden personal website and of course a decent person.

Speaking of accidents, just last month, I had someone write me through an e-mail account I kind of treat sacredly. I got suspicious with the nick: "So Fine" and the popular name he used. He was supposedly looking for someone. Now, I had reason to suspect it might be someone I knew who would have the motive to disguise himself. However, upon closer examination, I concluded it was not he.

I wasn't really in the mood to open up for a correspondence with anyone. And I had read his e-mail weeks after he had written, so I went back and forth about writing back to say "You're mistaken." I thought about writing back out of courtesy, but I didn't want to sound too cold. I also thought if I didn't sound cold, then the person might just think it's some door to begin correspondence. I haven't written back and probably won't. However, who knows . . . I'm kind of getting in the mood for a penpal, especially one from a different country. Who knows if he's really so fine? LMAO! My experience on the 'net tells me not to trust folks with nicknames such as "So Fine", though, 'cuz they are usually so far from fine. He might be fine if he were from a country like Brazil . . . so maybe I should open up. ;)

Who even wants your contact info? and if you never posted it, why'd you even assume they got it from the internet? Hell as a kid I'd go online and get DMV, criminal, and property info from the phone book and call people at random in the phone book to 'play games' with them.

I may be paranoid, but I'm also a 110 lb female who doesn't live with any male. Much more vulnerable than you probably are. In real life, you have some control over who you interact with. If someone gives you physical cues that they may be unsafe, you can choose to avoid them. On the internet, there are few cues like that, and you don't even have to interact with someone for them to follow you closely.

I was persuaded before. I've never given out info at large that would lead someone to contact me in real life.

What kind of f*ing roommate is that.... sheesh, I'd be pissed, seriously. If you still feel a little insecure, you may want to get a small security system or something for your home, they aren't very expensive if you sign like a one year contract or something with them.

Buying friends eh... now THERE'S an idea!

Seriously though, I'm sorry to hear about this. Hopefully it really was just a big joke and these stoners didn't figure out how to find you. The funny thing is that I wouldn't think that stoners, of all people, would have the motivation to hunt you down...

Just a suggestion... Go to Wal-Mart and get a baseball bat to keep under your bed.

R

I'd suggest something with a little more oomph than a bat.

Something in the 45-calibre range should suffice.

- M4H

do you mean .45 caliber?

a <half inch bat won't do all that much...

:(

Man, that was one messed up situation. One of the things that also prompted me to erase AMAP from the intarweb about myself. :p

Oh, that pizza was good cold, too. :D

freaky, sorry to hear about that. very bizarre situation.

(imo, you are probably better off keeping your pics out of your sig for good as well, altho I'm probably towards the paranoid nature in these matters)
