I heard about that a few years ago and I assumed Macs would get them, but here it is probably 2 years later. That seems like it would add a lot of value for very little cost.
I think that the next version of OS X is going to have hardware level decoding, or at least something similar in the form of QuickTimeX... this hasn't been added to the developer builds of Snow Leopard yet (at least not to the best of my knowledge) and so I can't tell you how it does compared to Leopard.
