Why have RAM prices increased?

I've noticed an approximate 10% increase in price across the board for 2x1024mb ram from about a month ago... Patriot LL used to be $232 now it's $256 ($24 increase), OCZ value used to be $185, now it's $201 ($16 increase). Does this have anything to do with seasonal/annual sale targets?

Could be seasonal, or it could be because DDR2 is finally leading to a reduction in the supply of DDR, which would drive up prices for DDR.

Yeah, seems it's going up.

The Mushkin i got went up $35 after i ordered it :Q

I've noticed RAM prices seems to fluctuate wildly though. Up & down...down & up...

Seasonal. Every year at this time people start posting about it. Prices will stay or rise until after XMas. In January and through spring they'll fall. You can set your clock on it.

They are going up, but they are still way less than they were at the first of this year.
I paid $145 for 2x512 Corsair Value RAM back in Janurary. 🙁

The ram manufacturer's are shifting the lines to DDR2, so the prices of DDR2 is going down, but the flip side is there's less DDR going around so there prices are going up. I also think there producing more flash drives, taking away from our precious DDR supplies!

Why didnt someones alarm bells ring to warn me? In my house, I have 2x 512 pc3200 and 1x 512 pc2100. My dad needs 1x 512 pc3200 for his Sempron after he fried my old palomino 1800+, My DLT3C 1700+ is stuck with 1 pc2100 and 1 pc3200 so relieving the bandwidth restrictions of the XP's isnt possible.

If someone told me they were going to rise, Id have picked up a stick 😛

Chip prices have rebounded so RAM manufacturers have to pay more to samsung, infineon, micron, etc. Prices since Jan have been really soft, but supply is starting to tighten up, even on the spot market. Switches to more DDR2 production are part of it too.

RAM is a commodity, just like rice or beef believe it or not, so this is why...

memmory prices have been fluctating like crazy for at least the last 10 years. Most of it is just due to market speculation IMO.
