In the past Jim worked with a lot of companies in the semi and product space but never Nvidia.

Does anyone know why?

It seems like his job since the 90s has been to get into a company that is struggling technically/technologically (either from being a new contestant like PA Semi or being unable to compete for several cycles in a row like AMD) and then turn it around.
This means wherever and whenever he goes he's probably given a very long leash, lots of autonomy and adequate resources.

Looking back, it doesn't look like Nvidia ever really had an opening like that.

I'm still keeping my hopes up that Jim Keller will be brought back as Intel's CEO one day.

No one can work CPU architecture miracles like him. Well, other than maybe Gerard Williams.

I bet his departure is what made Intel finally take their head out of their ass. Too little, too late though.

Doubtful. The management at Intel are egotistical enough to think they knew better.

I wouldn’t be sure that they've fixed the problems until management has been completely gutted, and even then I wouldn't be entirely sure that the remaining ones hadn't tainted the replacements.
