That takes money. They first had to get capitalized - that is now done and they can move forward. It's really a normal business procedure.

Pretty much. Its not like they need to make their own. All they have to do is support Firefox. And they already have. They've included a google address bar and I'm pretty sure contribute plenty to Mozilla. That is their browser. ;)

Maybe they have been busy and why divert resources to re-do what was done over a decade ago when there are more exciting and innovative paths to blaze, or at least things that can be more significantly improved?

Yep - they'd be better off contributing to or creating extensions for Firefox. Where they've been succesful so far is in niches where they could make revolutionary leaps over what existed. I don't think that opportunity exists in browsers right now.
