Hi all,
I was looking for various SSDs firmware updating tools and i noticed that some of them using IDE mode and some are using AHCI mode. Even intel is using both for it's different series. Can anyone tell me what is the reason behind this? I tried to look into specs but did not get any noticeable change.

Lots of the info you see about updating firmware is outdated. As to the reason i'm not sure. But my Crucial M4 updating had lots of info that does not apply anymore because of better BIOS that fixes the old problems.

All SATA drives should be using AHCI. There shouldn't be a need to use anything else for SATA, unless your motherboard don't support it.
I assume that is the main reason why they would offer IDE utilities.

i know for my intel drives I used to have (X-25M's and X-25V's) I had to switch to IDE mode for the firmware updater utility to see the drives (same deal with secure erase)...

but with my Crucial M4's, I did not have to do this when I updated the firmware this morning
