Why dosn't Google just disable youtube comments altogether?

They have broken them beyond belief and keep breaking them more and more. Why not just remove the feature altogether if they really don't want people to be able to comment on videos? Ironicly I was about to comment on a video about how the comment system is so retarded now, but now it does not even work. LMAO. Instead of being able to type in the box you get a popup that appears than disappears right away. Man oh man, the fail is so epic it just jarrs me right out.

I think it's time to just close my account lol.

Youtube is almost as bad as healthcare.gov these days.

That would suit me fine. I block comments. They're a waste of bandwidth.,

Yeah, this is a really idiotic move on google's part. I'm not even going to try to link accounts and jump through the hoops. They'll either change it back or I won't be back.

What Browser are you using? I'm having no issues posting comments in Firefox.

Sounds about right. Every 6 months they go and change random shit.

Web designers need to keep justifying their jobs. Even if it doesn't make the site any better.

YouTube's comments have always been a wild west show of pwning n00bs. Sometimes they're good for a laugh. I'm surprised it's taken this long to reign them in.

Yeah, the youtube comment section contains so much filth, but forcing Google+ is the worst way to combat it. You think they could just create a hidden user score where if a person's comments continuously get flagged, it shadow bans the commenter or something.

I only use an account with Youtube to keep track of a few subscriptions. If I could do that without being able to comment (thus no G+), I'd be happy enough.

Ya, YT comments are usually not worth reading. However, some are worth it. What I always hated about its' comment section was that it was damned near impossible to follow a conversation. Even trying to find a particular comment was like finding a needle in a haystack.

Firefox. The comment box looks like it's "fake" when I go to click on it, it opens a popup which just immediately closes. Not a huge deal though, I probably should not even be commenting on anything anyway since with google+ who knows who is getting emails and stuff about it. Don't really want to be bothering all my friends with notifications because I post "lol" or "that's cool" on a video. Can go without it. :p

Going to be dumping my youtube account once I find an alternate site, or code a web interface myself to host videos myself. It's not like I've monetized my channel, I just have lot of random stuff on there.

Still have to decide what to do about my gmail as well, all my domain admin contacts go there, I don't know if I want to switch it to an email address that is on the domain that the admin contact is for... if there is an issue with my domain and the admin contact needs to receive mail, you can imagine how much of a pain that could be. :p

TBH I never had an issue with the actual content of comments, I guess it depends what kind of videos. Technical videos tend to actually have some decent comments. Though they totally botched comments a few years ago when they made a change where the order makes no sense so it's impossible to try to follow a conversation. They've only been throwing more nails at that coffin since that point.

Comments work fine here with firefox so you might want to make sure a add-on isn't blocking the message about the new comments they are using as that would probably be the reason.

Sure they are usually horrible but some people actually use them for what it's meant for or control what is said.

Except for the fact that you now have to use Google+, it seems like the new commenting system is actually pretty decent.

I can't comment at all because I'm not going to be linking my G+ account to it. :/

People usually don't have a problem with change as long as it is as efficient as before and isn't too convoluted to work with.

Windows 8 is a good example of "IF it ain't broken, don't fix it" saying. Seriously, what was Micro thinking of putting Windows 8 out on PCs.

It's their way of boosting numbers for their dead network and make investors think they will get their money back from it. ;)

when a company's motto is "don't be evil" you can be damn sure they're cooking up some blofeld shit behind the curtain.

I tried to disable adblock but I still just get a really large popup window that immediately closes. What a piece of crap. The text box is just an image as I can't actually type in it, it just opens that window when I click.

Not that I even want to comment on anything anyway, I'll be closing down my account soon, or whenever I get around to it.

Oh great, I do have adsense though and the money is kind of nice. I'll have to find an alternative to that too. Probably when I redesign my whole sites. Might just make a system where people can directly advertise. No ad network/tracking BS.

Google is such fail these days.

youtube has always done this. make a huge, terrible change and 99% revert it within 48 hours, although i guess some terrible changes like channel pages and being tied to google+ are permanent.

is there anything else made by man that starts out 100% perfect and tons of effort goes towards fucking it up in every way possible?

I kinda like the new changes just simply because of all the morons that now have their real names showing next to their racist/homophobic/insanely stupid comments on there.

Like others said just block the comments entirely, or ignore them. Hmm, actually thanks to NoScript that happens for me automatically, yay.

You're right, if only there was other versions of Windows for people to run instead. Windows 8 has a ton of improvements, most people just lost their shit over losing the start button (which was the single biggest blunder on Microsoft's part, but that's more people got so dependent on something that really isn't that efficient anyway) and whining about the touch stuff which you didn't even need to bother with if you wanted to use Windows the same way. Certainly its not perfect (Win 7 wasn't either...), far from it in fact but its hardly as bad as people pretend it is. Windows 8 isn't convoluted to work with unless you're either so completely pavlovian stuck on the start button that you seemingly can't operate a computer without it, or you have no idea what you're doing and even then I'd say Win 8 is fairly straightforward. Plus most of the issues are already worked on with 8.1 so there's no reason to still be running 8.

I actually find the comments very entertaining and quite enjoy them. What I didn't like was how they integrated Google plus and everything together which made it confusing for me at first. I guess it was supposed to make people use their real names or something?
