How do you do that in the gui? winipcfg was taken out of 2000 and xp and afaik the only way to do any of those tasks was via command line and ipconfig

fwiw - I do also like looking at the pictures when I'm at a fastfood joint. It helps me decide what I'm after if I don't know what to eat. :)

umm If you want to see your IP in a gui on windows all you need to do is put the check box in your network setting to show a little monitor in the task bar when your connected. Then you can click on it and see your IP plus release and renew from there. Although it seems to take a lot longer to relese/renew from there. Its better to do the command line.

I don't want to use the command line. Period.

Dont get into windows server administration. Sometimes you even have to write batch scripts!

But seriously, you could use gedit to edit most of your config files, and even use a run dialog box to run command line commands. Then you would never need the comand line.

Its a simple fact that most people love the command line after getting used to it. This is why no one has really taken the time to work on gui replacements for linux command line utils. Plus a lot of the utils would be more complicated in a gui enviroment or would be unable to provide the same level of detailed feedback without being a gui window that just prints out the command line.

I use the command line every day, at work on windows and at home on linux. I have written tons of scripts to make my life more livable. If you dont like the command line, I suggest you never try to do any serious work with your computer. Windows, Mac or linux.

Ok I might have been a little rash, I do use the command line every now and then and I can understand where you are coming from. And congratulations on enjoying writing your own scripts to make your life easier, you're one in a million.

BTW i'd like to hear your explanation of "serious work" To you being a codemonkey hardcore in the command line might be "serious work" because you feel cool that most other people don't know what you're doing. However to another, pressing the "trade" button to make a million dollars off of stocks might be "serious work using windows, linux or mac". And they didn't even have to write the script or command that button through a command line, holy shigte!!!one!!eleven.

I can't remember the exact wording since I haven't seen Windows in a while, but on the connection properties there's a tab with the IP info on it and a repair button, the repair button just releases and renews your IP.
