Why are we giving prisoners jobs when we have unemployed??

Cost of prisoner is a sunk cost, cost of unemployment benefits is a sunk cost.

Let the unemployed do any work you'd think of having the prisoner do. Let prisoners feel like dead weight as opposed to the unemployed!

Indeed, but there is a reason these folk are crazy and, in fact, actually dangerous themselves. They have no internal morality and are kept out of prison only by fear. And this fear they want strengthened as much as possible because they are weak and will succumb to temptation the first time they are sure no punishment awaits them. This mental illness developed as follows:

We were all put down as children, made to feel the worst in the world, when we did things our parents, in their own mentally ill state didn't like. They trained us to conform by being made to feel worthless if we didn't. Criminals, the violence we see them do to others, is the result of a need for revenge, a desire to harm those who made us feel bad, but all unconsciously, because we are terrified to actually remember what pain we were made to feel, what profound self disgust that we weren't worthy of love.

So instead of developing the natural love and sympathy for others that is the natural birthright of the human ape, the ability to empathize with the suffering of others, we want others to suffer, just like we did.

We hate the worthless piece of shit criminal each of us was made to feel and project it out on those who, unlike us, were never broken, or so broken that are fully consumed by hate and have no more fear. We hate them because we know they are us, monsters waiting their chance to destroy.

So we want them to suffer miserably so we can maintain the fear that keeps us in check.

But sadly we are all morons and believe that doing more of the same thing that destroyed up in the first place will fix everything.

We actually believe that if we beat people enough moral will improve. And then we let the prisoners out when their time is served filled with suppressed rage. We are a bunch of geniuses.

There is only one way to stop crime and it is a personal choice. Ones morality has to be internalized. Only love of others keeps you from violating their rights. Fear and punishment only create more madness.

You punishers are afraid of your own inner truth and it makes you insane. Your own criminal mind is the source of all the criminality you see.

This truth has been known for thousands of years:

Put some spinning devices on the prison garden and make them spin the wheels for electricity. 1 kwh = 1 day less in sentence ... No need to carry the inmates outside the walls, no need to market the end product and it is good for the inmates health.

As far as Oklahoma goes, they do most of the stuff mentioned in this thread. They help grow and farm the food, do the lawn/garden work, do work on the prison's vehicles, work in the kitchens, pick up trash on the local roads, just about every job except guards and administrators. You are made to do something unless medically restricted. These are minimum to medium security level prisons, you don't want max or high max prisoners out running around.

There's gotta be something that all that excess labor in the form of the prison population can do, to at least make the prisons break even, no?

These folks, the truly hardened prisinors, do not function in society.

Therefore, they are locked up.

If you have a problem with the prison system locking up people that have no real problem with society, then address that issue.

I think putting prisoners to work is better than letting them sit around all day and think of ways to become better criminals. The prison system in the US is just a revolving door once the criminal gets out he/she goes right back in. At least having the non violent prisoners would teach some them responsibility and they might think of working for living when they get out vs. just become a better criminal to do more damage to society.
