Why don't we have this in the US? (Self Freezing Coke)

Releasing the the pressure on the CO2 causes bubbles to form lowering the overall density of the Coke. The coke is stored slightly below the freezing point of water but does not freeze due to the pressure.
 
It must be stored super cooled below freezing. Then when you drinking it gives something for the ice to form on.

The vending machine keeps the coke a few degrees below freezing, however, ice expands and the coke is under pressure so no ice can form. The quaff and the shake release the pressure and since the coke is still below freezing temperatures it freezes.

I saw some really cool stuff on super cooled water on Discovery or History channel. They blamed it on a big jet crash. The water is well below freezing but yet can't freeze because there is no "seed" or whatever you want to call it (I forget the chemistry/physics term) for the crystal to form on. In the jet crash, the plane and it's air speed meteres were the seed and immediately were covered in huge sheets of ice, the heaters had no way to keep up.

Not form on, there is plenty of stuff in coke to seed crystal formation. The water in the coke bottle is under pressure, and water is one of the substances that freeze at lower temperatures when under pressure. The coke is stored at (or right below) the freezing temperature of water, so when you open the bottle and release the pressure it can start to freeze. Taking a drink is so there is room for the expanding water to go (it takes a moment or two for the water to actually freeze.) I bet if you just opened the bottle and let it sit there it would still freeze, but it would spill out of the top of the bottle.

This has nothing to do with Coke, or Hong Kong.. lol.

Give me a US vending machine and I could do the same thing with any beverage contained inside of it by simply turning the thermostat down.....
