Why don't they sell notebooks with famous celebrities or characters on the cover?

I remember back in my childhood everyone would buy notebooks for class with all kinds of celebrities, characters, logos, etc on the cover. My favorite notebooks were the Mario Bros notebooks. They used to sell Baywatch notebooks, 90210 notebooks, Star Wars notebooks, you name it.

All they sell in America are these bland, boring, black composition notebooks. What gives, America?

Example of the types of notebooks we used back in school (scroll down)

Because the celebrities demand too much money for use of their photos...

I like the classic composition book. You can get a notebook with something stupid on the cover, but why would you want to?

I remember the black ones from chemistry/physics labs but other than that we don't use them.

What I used was PeeChees 99% of the time.

I don't need a notebook. If I did, I would not care about the cover. I'm talking about school kids. They want something "cool" on their cover.

Well, I'm thinking about this from a business perspective. In Colombia, several different companies compete for the lead in school notebook sales. The different companies come up with colorful, appealing notebooks so that kids will want to buy them. If a company released a series of notebooks with plain covers like the ones in American composition notebooks, they would probably go bankrupt.

It's a shame TV's killed all the kid's brains. There's cool things you can do with a regular composition book cover, but it takes imagination.

Your example cover would end up becoming rather sticky, and decried by Christian groups and burned by feminist groups.

One thing I will say, is the newer Chinese marble covers aren't as nice as the older American books. The covers look cheaper, and the quality on the marbling isn't the same. It doesn't make them less functional, but like everything else Chinese, it looks like a cheap copy if you cared to notice :^/

You live under a rock or something? They already make these, but parents don't want to buy some "licensed" notebook for $3+ when there are perfectly good plain looking ones on sale for .10 during the back to school sales.

i always used lined paper.

now since i'm only attending one or two classes, i don't even bother with filler paper. i buy stacks of pads from staples, and keep one in my folio. that's the only thing i carry to classes.

so... i never used notebooks.

Lol I had a few of those Trapper Keepers in grade school. My notebooks were always just the plain 'Mead' brand iirc. I always doodled though and had stuff drawn on all of them. Same with book covers, I just used blank paper and drew on them too. When I ran out of stuff to draw on, I'd just started on the pages at the back of my notebooks.
