Why don't runway models smile?

Whenever I see a clip from a fashion show on tv, none of the girls smile. They all have this serious blank look, like they're not allowed to move the muscles in their face. It's almost disturbing and very distracting from the clothing that they're trying to show off. What's the deal?

because most designers do not want the models personailties showing through. they are just there to show off the clothes.
Plus, i guess they think its more sexy and intriguing that way.
some desingers (anna sui) want the models to laugh and look at the cameras etc.
