Use an alternative client to access their network, it works extremely well if you put in more than 2 minutes to set it up and configure it.

As soon as AIM goes to a pay service, you may chime a different tune.

...but if you use an alternative client, why bother...I don't even know anyone on ICQ anymore.
I don't use AOL AIM for AIM.

Got a friend of mine with an ICQ just over 10,000. He said he'd give it to me if he could remember the password. Heh.

If AIM ever goes to a pay service, there are still the two other messaging programs inferior to AIM yet superior to ICQ that are popular among a lot of people. ICQ is the Prodigy/Compuserve of messaging programs - it had it's day in the sun.

check out a messaging app called miranda.

the interface looks a lot like ICQ97-99ish...and it supports AIM, MSN, ICQ, IRC, and more. been using it at work for the past month and have no complaints yet.

i agree that the old versions are better. however, a majority of the ppl i talk to most use AIM, thus i use AIM. back in the day when i used to frequent yahoo chat... alots of ppl overseas use ICQ. i am guessing they still do. i hear that lots of ppl overseas use MSN now too.

I use it every day, but recently I've been using ventrillo to talk to my friends. ICQ has essentialy replaced email and ventrillo is a much faster way to get 'instant messages'.

I use it once in a blue moon. All my friends and people I need to talk to are on AIM anyways.
