Why dont people here do like French?

I love the French god bless them. When they have issue with thier government they lock down the country and park thier cars trucks in the middle of streets in Paris and other cities and just don't show up for work. Happens like once a year - they get pissed - shut down the whole country for two/three weeks at a time. Why don't the antiwar crowd do this here? Or anti-illegal immigration proponets? Or anything else where goverment is'nt responding to the peoples will?

Americans are a civilized people. We settle our differences at the ballot box where we are able to choose from the thousands of different political views expressed by the two identical parties.

To go ape-sh!t in the streets would be just like wearing black wool instead of white, most undignified. But checking my schedule I see that next year May 13th I can book an hour to gripe about the cost of gas even though I know it won't do any good.

Heard of a little thing called the "Minute Men"? Those are people out doing something to stop illegal immigration.
How about the "NRA" or "GOA" or any of the other firearms groups who work daily to protect our God given Rights against those who seek to enslave us.

There are people out there making statements and taking stands, we just wont shut down the country to do it.

Example? USA probably has more class system than france. Ask for a few million like dubya got from his freinds to strt your drilling business, fail not once but three times and continue getting loans - let me know if they stop laughing before thier bodygaurds throw you out. Soborne the best university in france is 100% free food too if you gain admission. Try that at Yale/

Maybe we should. Numbers mean something and the to few people down there are portayed as crack pots by media and government. I think it's because americans are fat and lazy and maybe wimpy too won't take a stand in numbers. More I think about it Illegal Mexicans have more gusto to defend themselves than Apple Pie Americans way they took to streets demanding thier rights be heard in cities across america recently. (sit-ins demostrations etc in mass)

Here are some more ways all we do is whine, no action as our republic slips away.

?When the weapons of mass destruction thing turned out not to be true, I expected the American people to rise up. They didn't.

Then, when the Abu Ghraib torture thing surfaced and it was revealed that our government participated in rendition, a practice where we kidnap people and turn them over to regimes who specialize in torture, I was sure then the American people would be heard from. We stood mute.

Then came the news that we jailed thousands of so-called terrorist suspects, locked them up without the right to a trial or even the right to confront their accusers. Certainly, we would never stand for that. We did.

And now, it's been discovered the executive branch has been conducting massive, illegal, domestic surveillance on its own citizens. You and me. And I at least consoled myself that finally, finally the American people will have had enough. Evidentially, we haven't.

In fact, if the people of this country have spoken, the message is we're okay with it all. Torture, warrantless search and seizure, illegal wiretappings, prison without a fair trial or any trial, war on false pretenses. We, as a citizenry, are apparently not offended.

There are no demonstrations on college campuses. In fact, there's no clear indication that young people even seem to notice. . . .

The Secret Service can now declare free speech zones to contain, control and, in effect, criminalize protest. Stop for a second and try to fathom that. At a presidential rally, parade or appearance, if you have on a supportive t-shirt, you can be there. If you?re wearing or carrying something in protest, you can be removed.

The French protest like that for selfish reasons - the jobs law that directly affects them. They don't shut down the entire country to protest Iraq. Where were the French people protesting when their government was installing their favorite cannibal dictator in Africa who feasted upon the blood and flesh of schoolchildren? Where were they protesting when their government was planning, organizing, and participating in the Rwanda genocide? Those don't directly affect the French people, so they don't protest it to the same degree.

I dislike the French government because I think that it's one of the most barbaric regimes in the world because it participates in worldwide colonialism and genocide. Luckily, they are in decline.

They stick them in slums from what I saw on television but that's not what I was referring to. It's the fact that they allow students to wear crosses to school but prevent Muslim girls from wearing head scarfs. People bash the USA about lacking freedom and all that b.s. but at least this country doesn't restrict religious freedom.

Look in the mirror. I dont think our record is very good either. we have troops all over, stave out with sanctions, ran hit squads in south ameria etc. In fact i'd say France has much less interventionist FP than we do.

Cant argue that. Americans are happy to give their country away to the lowest bidder/lowest common denominator, long as they can drive home and watch American Idol.
