Why don't pedestrians ever run?

Unless they're carrying/pushing something, I see no reason for pedestrians not to pick up the pace a little bit. When holding up a car or two (or even 20), I still see pedestrians walking slowly across the street...taking their sweet time. Same with parking lots, etc.

Is running that huge of a burden? Are people that lazy/out of shape?

I ALWAYS run/jog across crosswalks and parking lots. It's polite. I suggest everyone else do the same, unless something is holding them back.

I live in the city and walk to work. Nothing more pleasurable than taking my time and annoy commuters :)

It doesn't really bother me, the way I see it, people in a car are already going faster than those walking. If you're in a rush next time leave earlier.

LOL, why are people so lazy they got to drive everywhere. Used to be people walked everywhere.

I take great joy in the thought of you running across streets and parking lots.

Its rude to drive in a congested area. If it upsets you try being a pedestrian for once.

Wow, nice replies. I'm asking for something SIMPLE here. If you're out golfing, and you suck and you're holding up the party behind you, it's polite to let them through. I guess next time I hold up some golfers I'll just say

"IF YOU'RE IN SUCH A HURRY YOU SHOULD HAVE MADE YOUR TEE TIME HEARLIER YOU EGOCENTRIC ASSHOLE!"

I'm a pedestrian all the time at college. I ALWAYS hustle across the street. Why? My parents taught me to...like they taught me to be polite in all things.

No, you won't.

Probably not. But I would if I followed the advice given by ATOT :)

You've already made up your mind and convinced yourself you're right regardless of what other people say, so why did you bother asking for opinions on it? Just so you can argue? Or were you hoping someone would agree with you so you'd feel validated?

In the very rare times that I do have to walk :) I will hurry up a little if I'm holding a few cars back.

So at college, at least to me, means you are still in college. As such I now think it is reasonable to conclude that you are some self-centered know-it-all college kid who just thinks they are so 'deep' and what have you. And, that is just going off of what you posted.

Get the hell over yourself, if you can't wait a few more seconds for somebody to cross the street then you have way more problems than just simple impatience.

Your origninal topic is about pedestrians, not golfers.

If someone is waiting to cross I pick up to a quick pass. I hardly run, but I have a long gait and can cover a good distance quickly. I always make a nod or wave to the person who I'm hold up to.

True, but the main point is about people holding other people up when they don't have to. Simple rudeness.

Are we talking a protected intersection, or just some random place along the street? If it's a protected intersection with a crossing light, sure I might jog the remaining distance if the light's about to change. But otherwise, no. The extra 15 seconds sitting there in your car isn't going to kill you.

If you want to see polite, you should drive the road I take to work every day. It's not uncommon for traffic to stop (not at a light) to allow pedestrians waiting at a crosswalk to cross the street. That's polite.
