you mean antitrust? :p
MSN Messenger was only bundled with one operating system: WinME. And it was version 2.1, which can't even logon anymore.

XP doesn't bundle MSN Messenger. It has Windows Messenger, tho'. And there was some sort of legal trouble that MS had to address in SP1, which resulted in preventing Windows Messenger from launching on first use. Not too big a deal, since most people download MSN Messenger anyway, since it's vastly more personable and customizable than Windows Messenger. Kinda kills off the whole "monopoly" or "antitrust" arguments.

I thought Windows Messenger was MSN Messenger???

i dont know how accurate this is , but i think people in the northeast (nj, ny, pa, etc) use AIM.. while ppl out there in the midwest use yahoo. i know this because i;'ve met ppl from the midwest and even the south who use yahoo. kinda like we call it soda. they call it pop.. of course the south is just mad they lost to the north! (go jersey!)

i'm also using yahoo messenger, i never even tried AIM (discussed it in another thread just a couple of weeks ago). all my friends are using yahoo now, before yahoo we were all using ICQ. this is since way back in 96.

I have a few work people that use Yahoo, but I mostly chat with friends on ICQ and AIM. I guess its because of all those AOL users that got used to having their "buddy lists". I never log onto MSN anymore.

They're not even close in appearance, individual capabilities and feature sets. Those are the primary reasons why they have two different names. Besides, you'll notice they can both be running and logged on simultaneously...they're two separate products altogether.
