just tried it last night for the first time, it's awesome - much better features IMO.

-built in shoutcast radio
-INVironments (interactive themes that both people can view/mess around with)
-video conferencing that actually works
-offline messages

there are also a handful of smaller features. it's a pity more people don't use it. the only thing it's missing is tabbed windows a'la deadaim.

Because yahoo just recently changed their password system so Trillian users can't get on.

Trillian is the way to go dude. Why stick with one IM system when you can do 4?

AOL monopoly. I used Yahoo at the very beginning, but everyone else used AIM, so it didn't work out well. Now, I have all bases covered with Trillian :)

Most people don't use the extra features anyway (such as IMVironments) but offline messaging is definitely good.

I use it. I don't like any of the other messengers and always have used Yahoo. I don't like the beta of their newest version, though.

Yahoo still works with trillian, you need to download the latest trillian patch.

Don't need those.

-offline messages

That would be nice

To answer your question, more people don't use it because more people don't use it. :) My friends don't use it, so who would I talk to on it?

They haven't added any truly useful features to IM programs in years, just more bells and whistles.

Yahoo is my least-use messenger, along with ICQ.

Only a couple of "active" friends on each one..

I use all of the IM services, including ICQ since I've been on the net since 1997. I wish that more people used Yahoo, since their IM program has good archiving, offline messages, webcam, integrated games, music, stocks, weather, your yahoo message book, email, etc.

The only good reason AIM is around is because everyone uses it since most people started on AOL or know someone who did.

I am sure in time, AIM/ICQ will have the same features as Yahoo, but just not at the moment.

Most people I know use MSN Messenger because it is included with the OS (can someone say monopoly). I am a GAIM user though.

I use AIM for the same reason I have a VZW cell phone ... that's what all of my friends use.

They released a patch. But I hardly ever use Yahoo because no one else uses it.

MSN Messenger was only bundled with one operating system: WinME. And it was version 2.1, which can't even logon anymore.

XP doesn't bundle MSN Messenger. It has Windows Messenger, tho'. And there was some sort of legal trouble that MS had to address in SP1, which resulted in preventing Windows Messenger from launching on first use. Not too big a deal, since most people download MSN Messenger anyway, since it's vastly more personable and customizable than Windows Messenger. Kinda kills off the whole "monopoly" or "antitrust" arguments.
