why don't more people like cats than dogs?

Didn't you see the movie Cats and Dogs? Those cats were evil!!

Really though, I have a cat and a dog, and i'd rather my dog... my cat doesn't do anything but sleep and eat, at least my dog can do some tricks.

Cats are solitary animals, they can be hard to train since not a whole lot pleases them for reinforcement purposes. Despite that, I'll take a cat anyday! Clean and loveable, with amusing personalities.

bastard cats always scratch me, i hate em! dogs wag their tails i like em.

cats are useless, IMO, dogs are mans best friend for a reason, the avg dog comes when you call him, understands about a dozen commands, and usually obeys them. Cats knock things over, walk on your keyboard when your trying to type, make noise all night, scratch the living hell out of you. Most cat owners i know are used to getting up and opening doors whenever thier cat meows, it seems like the cat has THEM trained. My dog can sit, lie down, roll over, shake hands, and jump on command, he also knows what to do when i say "Outside", he goes right to the back door and waits for it to open. He understands "NO", and when its wet or muddy outside, and i let him in, i say "On the rug" and he stays on the rug by the door until he drys off. Hes also very protective, not only of me, but of my nieces and nephews, he's somewhat of a babysitter, at my parents house, theres no door on the stairway to the basement, so toddlers could walk/crawl over there and fall down, my dog saw me redirect several misguided kids away from the stairs and back to the living room, he then took over the duty, several times he grabbed my niece by the arm (very gently by the way) and slowly pulled her back into the living room, while there he keeps the kids entertained and plays with them. My dog is just as cute, and just as lovable as a cat, hes a big furball with a beatiful coat of shiny hair, and can curl up by your side any time you need some company.

cats don't scratch for no reason at all. maybe you hurt them too much.

what was the name of that movie with ben stiller, robert deniro, and whats her name?.. the in laws or something..
deniro sums it up:

dogs are easy - they'll love anybody
cats are harder, you have to earn their love

depends on your personality - cats are less physical work to care for, more emotional effort to bond
dogs are more physical work to care for, less effort to bond.

take your pick!

Very true, my friend's cat is mean - he whips out ten talons everytime visitors come over.

i prefer cats... i'm lazy so with a cat, don't have to walk it... don't have to play with it that much. don't have to give it bath at all.
just remember to feed the cat and change the box and they'll love you when they feel like snuggling up to you and purr.
here are some pics if you want to see my cats.

with dog... hmmm don't they eat their own er.. stuffings... or is it just a myth? besides... i've heard of people being mauled to death by dogs.. but not cats(hmmm remember that psycho cat fluffy that attacked the cop? guess that cat didn't like the camera)

Actually, cats are a more popular pet.

<< Compiled with the assistance of the NPD Group, the PFI Pet Incidence Trend study shows that in 2000 there were over 75 million pet cats and 59 million pet dogs in the U.S. >>

<< The Pet Food Institute began tracking the population of pet dogs and cats in the U.S. in 1981. Since that time the number of pet dogs has grown by more than five million while the total U.S. pet cat population has increased by over 30 million animals. >>

"The Pet Food Institute is the voice of the US pet food industry, representing companies that produce 95 percent of the commercial dog and cat food made in America. Founded in 1958, the PFI has worked with the pet food industry to provide safe and nutritious products for America's pet dogs and cats. For additional information on the Pet Food Institute and complete statistics on the PFI Pet Incidence Trend study, please visit www.petfoodinstitute.org."

All dogs have some form of mental retardation. Seems like they're born with underdeveloped brains. I despise dogs, not to the point of hurting them physically, but if I see one I will usually mock it until it barks at me.

Cats on the otherhand, don't sell out like dogs, they make you earn their affection.
I believe yakko said it best though:

<< People don't like pets that are smarter than they are. >>

i purposely try to avoid them, but they run up to me scratch me and run away. they are like the viet-cong, damn charlie cats!

Pepsei,

Great pics.

<< Most cat owners i know are used to getting up and opening doors whenever thier cat meows, it seems like the cat has THEM trained. >>

That is because they are smarter than dogs. A dog is too stupid to tell you "You threw it so you fetch it".

Cats are great

when marinated and prepared properly.

Dogs are mans best friend for a reason. They are somewhat useful, whereas cats just take up space, scratch up you furniture, walk all over your tables and cabinets, and are arrogant and non-chalant.

Dogs can protect your property and person. They can retrieve things for you and actually seem to care about whether you live or not(unlike a cat)

Cats are too snobby. I hate cat owners that treat their cat better than their guests. Makes me wanna punch something.

Dogs kickass.... active, loyal, and loving. 🙂

I like adult cats because they do not require much maintanence. They don't have to go outside, you can leave the food and water out all day, you don't have to give them tons of attention. They become like house fixtures and it is oddly entertaining to try to please them. I also love their independent mentalities. Most of the times my cats are hiding under chairs or tables, sleeping the day away. But see, I like that. When I get bored, I simply scoop one off the floor and pet the kitty, carressing its back and making it purr. So soft.

Dogs indeed can be great pals, but I don't want to own one. I'd much rather "rent" one for the day, even if this means you don't have an emotional attachment. Dogs are weekend friends and weekday chores. Cats are well, cats. Just leave them alone unless THEY want attention.

Most cat haters have just never met a nice cat. I used to be a cat hater also and now we have two and they both kick ass. They never scratch or bite or ruin the furniture or piss on the floor or bark or crap on the floor. I love dogs also but 99% of dogs are useless, so don't try and pretend that they are good for anything 🙂 They are more friendly and intelligent and overall I prefer them but cats have their pluses also: Easy to care for and still pretty snuggly if you get a good one. I think most cat owners who have crappy cats just ignored their cat too much. While ours were being brought up we constantly showered them with attention and now they rock.

actually... more dogs are eaten per year compare to cats. but that's for another thread.

<< Dogs are mans best friend for a reason. >>

yeah they blindly follows anyone who would pet them and give them a bone.

agree... but i prefer my home security system and my gun,it's my right 🙂 as a US citizen. but that's for another thread.
if i want to play retrieve things, i'd get a dog... but like i said, i'm too lazy to throw sticks back a forth... hmmm seems like the dog has trained you to throw things for them to get...

as for whether you live or not... i've heard of cases where the owner died and their pets ate them or part of them.... (both cats and dogs)

Someone explained it to me like this once - "Dogs have masters . . . cats have staff"

Actually I miss my cat 'Bandit' who laid out a body count every morning on the back porch - mice, moles, bunnies, birds, squirrels you name it all laid out in a row some times just the heads, tails & paws all lined up. She was a small cat, but killed a weasel one summer - she was the most efficient killing machine I ever had 🙂 Haven't gotten another one since.

don't have to give it bath at all

You don't bathe your cat?!

I prefer dogs... i like coming home and having my puppy get so excited she pees herself. I like when i jump in bed, she follows and snuggles up to me. I like it when i'm feeling needy and want her, i can call her name and she'll run up to me.
