Why don't manufacturers use memory times as a selling point?

It seems like everyone is looking for that magic card with the fast memory (ie the 9800 w/ the 3.3ns samsung, or 9600 pro w/ the 2.8ns RAM, or the ti 4200 w/ the BGA 3.3ns RAM). Having choices in memory on a vid card is great, but why don't manufacturers openly state what type and speed of memory they use? You'd think they could use it as a selling point. Seems like you have to find out thru 3rd parties like Anandtech forums to get the info.

I believe Gainward used to list theres on Newegg.

It would be a packaging nightmare. They use the memory they can get cheap that will run at spec. They may have to get it from several different mem companies to keep up with demand. They would then have to box them accordingly and change if they switched memory chips. Plus the average user doesn't care. Its like the Mountain Dew I'm drinking it contains high fructose corn syrup and/or sucrose. Well which is it? Its whatever is cheapest and easier to get.

Yes the avg user won't care, but the huge #'s of people who use sites like this and hardocp and overclockers would find the memory speed very useful. Gainward is a great example of a company that used it to their advantage.

is it overclocking if you run the memory at the MEMORY spec, not the videocard spec?

Gee, I don't know if that's quite the correct analogy. I imagine the average nerd isn't so fastidious when it comes to personal hygiene

But yeah that Gaywad company had their higher spec Golden Shower line or whatever.

A good example would be the 2.8ns Samsung Chips on the 9800 Pro. They're rated for 360MHz but run at 340 stock.
