No...we means have like a little jack on the back that you can watch the video from through a little hole. Right? It's an optical jack. :D

You sure mate? The optical out is for audio only. You must have a Scart or SVHS running to your tv.

I've never heard of such thing, but I could be wrong.

I just did a search for TOSLink and all i found was it in reference to Digital Audio, nothing about video signals. I'm pretty sure you have Svideo or an RCA hooked up for the video.

First off, do you get any audio when doing just a stereo input instead of trying to use DTS. Change the receiver to 4/5 Channel Stereo and see if you're getting audio in the first place. If the DVD player / computer whatever you are using isn't sending the audio signal properly in the first place, that'd be the problem.

Does your DVD player send a DTS signal? You're reciever might have a decoder, but if It's only getting a Stereo signal and not a DTS signal from the DVD player, it has nothing to decode.

OR if you are using a Optical Cable for the audio, on some receivers you have to adjust the actual channel on the receiver from Analog to Digital (or set it to "auto" - thats how my Denon works)

We'd need more information on your equipment to be able to help.

I have a Sony STR-DE845 with built in DTS decoder.
I have a Panasonic 5 Disc DVD changer that has DTS out
I have 2 Acoustic Research Towers , Acoustic Research center, and Acoustic Research Rears.
I have a Yamaha 150watt Subwoofer.

I get sound when I choose the Option Dolby Digital but I get no sound when I change the option to DTS.
I have no idea why.

I think he means how come video doesn't use fiber optic cables like some sound devices do. With fiber optic data pipes, the throughput is higher and clearer.

There's no reason why a TV (or any device that transfers data for that matter) couldn't use such technology.

Then here are a few options.

1. Make sure that you have the Optical or DTS enabled on the DVD player and output set as DTS

2. Make sure the receiver has that DVD channel set to accept Digital signals and not set to Analog.

3. Make sure all connections are secure.

4. Read the manual or take it over to hometheaterforums.com

:D

Go into the setup of your DVD player & check what the DTS out mode is set to.

My Panasonic DVD player defaulted to DTS off, with DD out set to bitstream (what they call toslink). Set DTS to bitstream & everything worked fine.

Took me & my roommate about an hour to figure that out. It was rather maddening.

Sigh....you'd know what he thought he meant if you actually read all the post.

He said he was sending video through his optical cable, which isn't possible. He's just mistaken and has another hookup that he probably doesn't remember cause it's sitting behind the TV.

Read people read!

Err.. you do realize that unless whatever you're playing is ENCODED in DTS, you're not going to get DTS sound? The DVD or whatever has to specifically have an option for DTS, and in most cases you must go to Audio Options in the DVD menu to select it, because it usually defaults to Dolby Digital.

I changed it to DTS sound ... but my Receiver doesn't seem like it's getting the signal ...
If I switch to Dolby Digital Mode.. it recognizes tho... I'm gonna check behind the receiver now.

and YES the DVD "SPY GAME" Collectors edition is encoded in DTS as well as Dolby Digital.
